The Chinese do not like to "lose face". They tried to bully Australia around economically with a coal embargo and it led to rolling blackouts. Now instead of kissing and making up they are buying the same Australian coal at a premium from other nations. Going to be a long cold and dark winter in China. It has had a real effect on me. One of my side hustles is a small crab trap production facility. I build crab traps for both the recreational and commercial fishing industry and supply several retail outlets. I take pride in the fact that the wire mesh I use for these traps is manufactured right here in Houston, Texas. Well so I thought. While the vinyl coated wire mesh is "Made In America" most of the raw steel comes from China. My current supplier is out and won't be manufacturing anymore until the new year at the earliest. I am glad it's not my only source of income because I have passed on multiple price increases and now I am completely out of product. I have to buy a pickup load of Chinese steel wire tomorrow. It's going to be astronomical I'm sure. I bought an 18' trailer today. The dealer said they are up almost 50% from last year. I don't think that's quite true but they are very pricey now.

I took note yesterday when I purchased ground beef at the grocery store for 5.29 lb. My wife normally does the grocery shopping so it was sticker shock to me.

The steel has exactly doubled in price from last year. Wire and banding from China.

Makes that cow I purchased (rail weight and processing) at an average of $5 per lb. (final product) across all cuts look like a real bargain.

I've noticed a lack of many items at my local Kroger Grocery store. Glen how was the store you were in? Ratty how about you? My local Kroger and Aldi always have the best prices. There are no obvious shortages, BUT, for lack of a better word. there seems to be what I'll call "a lack of plumpness". The piles are smaller, and with occasional voids. It is the picture of the fat, smiling Chinese peasant that is not quite so fat anymore. And, of course, my $100 weekly grocery budget, that lasted so well and for so long, has been blown out of the water. Marta says she now supplements it with another $20 or so. It used to include meat. Not any more. I expect it will not be long till that has doubled. The American peasant will be very grumpy soon and the Democrats are going to get blamed. Lets Go Brandon!

My neighbor wanted me to go in 1/2's on a cow last month at 4.29 cut and wrapped from a local meat market. I wanted to but my freezer is stuffed with hundreds of pounds of chicken quarters I by cheap and use for crab bait. I guess I could defrost and eat if need be in a pinch.

I've noticed a lack of many items at my local Kroger Grocery store. Glen how was the store you were in? Ratty how about you? There were no visible shortages. Just the price increases across the board on everything from produce to meat. Especially meat. It's clearly been a while since I have been grocery shopping because my wife said she has been noticing price increases nearly every time she goes. I do have a barometer. I buy hundreds of pounds of chicken three or four times a week from WalMart in 10lb bags that I use for crab bait. It is still 4.38 or 43.8 cents a pound. When that price moves I know things are getting tough. So far it's remained stable.

I am definitely taking advantage of this meat market next year after deer season and I would suggest everyone out there take advantage of bulk pricing like this from smaller local providers.
Doreck's Meat Market October 20 at 11:50 AM · This is your LAST chance to get a whole or half side of beef before we head into deer season! A whole steer will weigh around 700-800lbs hanging weight and will run 4.29/lb cut and wrapped however you want it! (Picture below is an example of some of the cuts you can get) We wont be able to offer this deal again till around February so get it while you can! Shoot us a message on here or call us at 409-925-6611
In addition I will use this post to compare with the price of the same steer in February.

I do not share the General's views. I think the Chinese plan to become the worlds biggest power is via economics and not the military. Any conflict over Taiwan would most likely lead to economic sanctions that would have long term effects on their economy and jeopardize their status as an economic superpower. The real war with China begins when the Yuan threatens the Dollar as the worlds reserve currency. The Chinese watched the Cold War closely. Shortly after the U.S. economically crushed the USSR the Chinese started to open up and transform their economy. Considering where they were 30 years ago and where they are today the Chinese economic growth is truly impressive. Whether it is a viable economy or just smoke and mirrors remains to be seen. they have planed for this .. empty citys .. there problem now is how to feed the middle class they have sown .. while keeping them middle class .. they have paid or are doing for most things .. but 2 yrs from now they could well be slaughtered to keep the pigs at bay
