I do not share the General's views. I think the Chinese plan to become the worlds biggest power is via economics and not the military. Any conflict over Taiwan would most likely lead to economic sanctions that would have long term effects on their economy and jeopardize their status as an economic superpower. The real war with China begins when the Yuan threatens the Dollar as the worlds reserve currency. The Chinese watched the Cold War closely. Shortly after the U.S. economically crushed the USSR the Chinese started to open up and transform their economy. Considering where they were 30 years ago and where they are today the Chinese economic growth is truly impressive. Whether it is a viable economy or just smoke and mirrors remains to be seen. they have planed for this .. empty citys .. there problem now is how to feed the middle class they have sown .. while keeping them middle class .. they have paid or are doing for most things .. but 2 yrs from now they could well be slaughtered to keep the pigs at bay

I've noticed a lack of many items at my local Kroger Grocery store. Glen how was the store you were in? Ratty how about you? My local Kroger and Aldi always have the best prices. There are no obvious shortages, BUT, for lack of a better word. there seems to be what I'll call "a lack of plumpness". The piles are smaller, and with occasional voids. It is the picture of the fat, smiling Chinese peasant that is not quite so fat anymore. And, of course, my $100 weekly grocery budget, that lasted so well and for so long, has been blown out of the water. Marta says she now supplements it with another $20 or so. It used to include meat. Not any more. I expect it will not be long till that has doubled. The American peasant will be very grumpy soon and the Democrats are going to get blamed. Lets Go Brandon! aldi over here are the cheapest for meat ... and thats where i shop .. i eat shit tons of meat .. ohhhh and a little salad ..

Isn't it interesting that Russia and China won't waste their time and resources on ending "climate change" but they are intent on improving their ability to access the frozen north. It's almost as if they know something the "enlightened" western powers do not!

Good account Code. The lack of growth in China will reduce the Chinese more than us.
India is a big winner from this they already have a European style of Govt. and education. Very smart people, 1.5B of them they will become the engine that takes over.
What will be different this time is that the cost of goods will not fall, we went to China to buy at a fraction of the cost, we will go to India for security and continuity reasons. What an opportunity awaits India.

This is more than a little scary, Mr. Glenn. How is the CCP going to react if this turns into a major economic downturn? Will they focus on external threats (Taiwan perhaps?). How will the Chinese people react if their standard of living stagnates or actually tumbles? Major, cataclysmic uprisings over economic issues are not unknow in China. (see the Taiping Rebellion for example). What effect will a major Chinese downturn have on the US and world economies? It's not like the US and EU economies are in great shape right now either. But one thing I am sure of, because Ms. Psaki told NPR who told me so. Brandon will think his way through this mess, if we only give him a little time!
