I believe we need a change in America... maybe even a change in the 2nd Amendment, at least a change in gun laws.
This photo was seen worldwide, taken inside the communications building at Seattle Pacific University June 5th 2014. The photo was almost the entire front page of The Seattle Times June 6th 2014. The photo was taken by my niece as she was escorted out to safety.

I suppose that all of us may have met a person (#1) who we hoped didn't own a gun. There are some people (#2) who think that that person is every one of us. I think that the only people less trustworthy than person#1 or #2 are those who sit in session to pass such laws. As in the old saying that no man's life, liberty or rights are safe while they are in session. We have all manner of gun laws, and none of them will stop a determined person #1 from getting a gun. The wild west stopped being wild when the good, lawabiding, armed citizenry drilled holes in the wild ones. Person(s) #2 needs to get over themselves. A disarmed population are slaves waiting to happen. And none of the people I know (possibly excluding person(s) #2) intend to be slaves.

Why do we have so many gun deaths in this country compared to every other country in the world?
Are the people of Europe slaves?
What about Canada?
I was in Vancouver Canada a couple weeks ago and I didn't see any slaves. I remember some years ago seeing the Rolling Stones in BC Place and bumping into Corbin Bernsen who was taking in the show. No slaves.

We live in a sleepy area, my kids school has had 2 gun threats, one recently where the kid concerned had a priority hit list.
I know in the first case, vans of armed police turned up at property and removed all weapons, which were shotguns for sport shooting.
We don't have hanguns or automatic rifles.
All guns are registered including the location of the safe where they are stored, police know what you have and where they're stored.

Yes that's probably true Flea, but compared to US, it's insignificant quantities surely. If you get harmed by a weapon in UK its much more likely to be a knife then a gun. I cant think of anyone I know who has a handgun, which probably wouldn't be the case if I lived over the pond.

If we remove a certain demographic from the gun statistics, the US ranks 103rd in the world for gun violence. This demographic is protected by the tribe. We need to bring back public hangings and I guarantee the crime rate would be close to zero in less than a generation.

When I was in school, most vehicles had a rifle in them. It isn't the guns, it is a breakdown of parenting.

If you bussed the population of Chicago or Memphis up to Vancouver, the gun violence stats would change dramatically for the worse in about 1 week. It's not the guns, it's the people. And we need guns to protect ourselves from those people. Almost ALL of the gun violence in the US occurs in large blue cities. Approximately zero gun violence orrurs in red state suburban areas.
I think you must be trolling Code. Seriously, have you actually spent any time around ghetto areas? I have. I'm thinking you cannot seriously be presenting Vancouver as a model for comparison.

Rights and Responsibility go together in a free society. You cannot ultimately have one without the other. Everybody seems to know "their rights" but not "their responsibilities". The later is the mirror image of the former. As individuals or small bands, bandits operate on the fringe of societies, taking what they want when they think they can get away with it. There are few/no instances I can think of in recorded human history when this wasn't the case. Home invasions around here are relatively rare, as bandits know that their likelyhood of living is relatively small. My little grandmother "discouraged" a chicken thief with a load of buckshot when the "men" were away back in the 10s or 20s. It may be trite, but the phrase ... "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns"... is true. Because outlaws will always have guns. No government proclamation or law will change that. Just ask/observe Mexico. Banditos should be discouraged the good old-fashioned way. The following Jefferson quote works just as well if government is changed to outlaws. Groups and governments tend to drift to authoritarianism if left unchecked ... and are the primary threat to liberty in a free society. NO government or their associated bureaucrats is to be totally trusted, and should be regularly retired and refreshed. If not resisted (so far only in the courts) how would Brandon's proscriptions have fared? All governments must know that they can be changed at the will of the citizenry. That has worked farely well for 250 years, but shows some signs of relapse into a new tyranical phase. During all this period, Americans were armed.

Can't speak for the rotten apple. Plenty on the black market over here too Flea ... for those who won't pass a government background check. They would still have guns even if the citizenry was disarmed. Which we will not be.
