Something is off and has been off. Chinese stock indexes have been going down for many years. That is not normal for a healthy, successful economy. And their population is collapsing. Even a 3% decline in population would be very harmful. China's looks to be much worse than that. but yet again your comparing china against western values ..there not western ... they have seen the decline so now they can have as many children as they want .. raised the limit .. stock indexes ??do they care anything about stock no .. it's only there for the westerners and the influx of there money .. successful economy ??they don't even care about there own people as long as there fed and they have something to do .. the only thing i can see happening is them stopping the bleed to India and bouncing back .. by producing more cheaper goods ..until there next plan comes into action .. Africa .. as the world turns cold they have bought enough land to feed there people ..there and Australia there planning 50 yrs into the future but people don't see it .. as the us breaks down (over spending ) and russia can't keep up there set to take the front line .. By underbidding the work relative to western standards, China has gained much economic and political clout in the world. But they are not yet our masters and I doubt that they ever will be. Still far from it. Myself, I don't like to work for free.

Their wages are already higher than the competition.

They have most likely peaked...

Since this chart was put together a few years ago China has pretty much followed the projection while Japan has fallen to about 4% of the world's GDP per the IMF.
I just read in an automobile magazine that the Teslas built in China are of noticeably better quality than those built in the US Tesla plant.
JPMorgan has recently bumped their China growth estimate up from 5% to 6.5% for this quarter.
I wouldn't follow your lead here and shower pity on China.

I would have to disagree. The Japanese build quality. Quality cars, electronics and other manufactured goods. The Chinese build shit. The Japanese fully embraced democracy and capitalism and did not build cities to nowhere. The Chinese government is not one elected by the people nor do they fully embrace democracy. I don't shower pity on the Chinese. They are a good, hardworking people. I just don't embrace their communist government.

I don't play around with economic data very much, so I'm not sure what kind of "fudge" may get baked into that cake. I used to have greater respect for government and quasi-government numbers. But my attitude has changed in recent years. May be just me. Americans need an enemy both militarily and economically. In the early 1980's our economic rival was Japan. Flearider, you're right on. If you buy a $5 shirt from China, it's not going to be high quality but the Chinese will be happy to sell it to you. If you want a Ralph Lauren shirt made in China, it will be high quality, but not cheap, but less expensive if it were made in the USA. You may remember the uproar when the US Olympic team bought their very upscale Ralph Lauren sportswear from China.
If you have an Apple I Phone it was probably made in China. If you're lucky you can get the highest quality Tesla from China.
In Tucson the choice for housetop solar cells are Chinese made. China now makes the top selling wind turbines.

Number fudging is pretty much a given. When I worked for a very large company as a senior vice president, at the end of each quarter the President and Chief Financial Officer would determine what the earnings would be. If the earnings were well above the target, we'd look for things to write off and we'd look for sales that could be reasonably reported in the next quarter instead of the current one and report earnings on the conservative side. If earnings were below target you'd look to tweak the earnings up. But over the longer term it's hard to move the earnings much without committing outright fraud.
The government can tweak the numbers with selected seasonal adjustments, by changing the definitions of job-seekers, by changing the basket of goods in the inflation calculation, etc., so there are fudges. They can be fairly significant, particularly when comparing quarterly figures. But it's pretty hard to fudge away the bigger picture because there's always someone checking. The UAH global temperatures are a good check on the faster warming reported by other governmental agencies.

Why is China so Obsessed With Food Security? 13 September 2022 ukragroconsult.com/en/news/why-is-china-so-obsessed-with-food-security/China is obsessed with food security. You might not realize just how obsessed: stockpiling rapidly, by the end of the year China – with its 20% of the world’s population – is projected to have accumulated and stashed away some 65% of the world’s corn and 53% of the world’s wheat.
