Looking at the pressures where things are going crazy that being 1hPa up to 30hPa that's the Stratosphere where HT deposited the water is this linked?? That is where these effects occur. The colour is showing wind reversal, ie, negative anomaly rather then temp. The temperature aspect is because the column of air is collapsing, as pressure increases therefore so does temperature. The column of air collapses due to disturbance of the tropopause, caused often by an atmospheric wave in the troposphere tho this wave can have a few causes itself.

If anything is going to happen it'll be next couple of days Non. I can't put my finger on why usual sources aren't reporting anything on this atm, and there isn't the same resources for SH such as gfs 10hpa forecast temp maps which are very useful for NH events. However, this suggests next 3-4 days will show vortex disruption on nullschool.

Lift off. We'll know next couple of days if there is any significance to it.

If anything like NH SSW. effects are regional, might effect 15-30% of area above 50° significantly. 50% moderately.
These are just my impressions.

Well I have been corrected in the past here, but my belief is that an SSW is in play. (SH)
We and also Australia are about to be trust into the fridge. Its actually very good as it will be a participant in the recharge of the hydro lakes in the south island and the ski fields will be given an extra month. If my lady deems it appropriate I may be granted a 5 day pass to enjoy.
I have been working on a gas well in NZ and logs will be fulled mid October and success will guarantee a pass. In the interim I will be in Australia working and the cold weather is chasing me there. Please!

And the very asymmetric temperature pattern remains in play. earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/isobaric/10hPa/overlay=temp/orthographic=-316.81,-88.93,321/loc=155.683,-82.242 We in NZ have had a cold variable start to the warm part of the year, in the south huge rains and snow in the mountains such that the low hydro levels in the dam catchments are now full and still it comes. If I look at Australia not withstanding Ratty's ridiculously warm part of the continent, they also have seen cold then warm cycles with snow on the hills quite late and more to come.
