This could easily go under Astro's post, but I love discussing/watching SSW so this thread may as well start now!

Something warmer showing SH strat....certainly-ve values showing at surface. Bare in mind these are essentially wind velocity anomaly charts, if your surface value is +ve its in its usual, zonal state.

Non, I have been watching SH stratosphere to see if I can see what you see. AM map shows -ve wind velocities at 10hpa in the forecast, and strong +ve at surface so, somewhere in SH is likely to get a cold bite of air in the not too distant future. This looks like a SSW event at 10hpa, however 3d vortex forecast shows a cohesive vortex with no displacement. So, dunno. This site is usually very good at forecasting SSW, NH certainly.

Look at this. earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/isobaric/10hPa/overlay=temp/orthographic=-177.14,-87.23,483 I look for any change in circulating temperature there was a strong burst some weeks ago and still some again now. Amazingly the antarctic is cold at surface when will it slip out and to what outcome. I am no expert at all but falling air must displace low down air funny how the impact can be quite remote to the first event. Not cold in NZ but cold in SH it must come to us also. Skiing is dead we are in lockdown so just an interest stuck at ski town for maybe a further month, would post a photo but have as yet not read Ratty's instruction, will though. Acid please more help for all as this could be a feature of the years before us.

I follow several Stratospheric scientists on twitter, they tend to get quite excited if they detect any warming....I promise I'll post anything they tweet regarding potential SH SSW here. I use this page.... postimages.org/Just upload your pic and copy "hotlink for forum"

thanks and cool.
what a bunch of strange folk all round the world, fantastic learnt so much and filled many an hour reading good stuff luckily don't agree with everyone's view.
The missing soldier is Naut, any news.

At a first glance seems more to be clarifying current understanding then producing new information? Can't say I understand the mathematical complexities, but I do recognise the processes discussed.

SSW potential for NH 2-3 weeks.
And it's Canadian which is the most likely form to affect Europe.
Odds on a front loaded winter increasing!

That's pretty normal I think non, the main vortex is well defined. You'd want to see -ve values, ie orange colours, to see overall reversal of flow...they're still very +ve.
