Gas boiler Glenn. I have a generator I use for site work and several regulation jerry cans. I'll be buying a couple of fan heaters before any potential cold weather. Home has 150mm cavity insulation and 400mm in the loft, it loses little heat but we are elevated and there's nothing to our east but fields. We're quite exposed to Beast from the East! Plus I drive a pickup with slightly oversized AT tyres and suspension lift. I drive it through areas on building sites your typical van can't go especially wet mud after a decent rain. I consider it education in how the 4x4 system handles and familiarisation. There would have to be alot of snow to immobilise me, alot more then most people. Thanks for asking, I'm not a prepped...but maybe I am a preparer. I'm checking with heating and cooling guys and electricians. For wiring up the connections between my furnace and freezer to an outside connection to a small gas generator. My furnace fuel is natural gas but when the electic goes out, it shuts down. Don't mind dark as I have headlamps. I have campstoves for cooking. I DO mind being cold. We experienced this during the deep freeze last February. What we found was that we could power the blower in the natural gas furnace and many of the lights in a home with even the smallest 2000Kw inverter generator wired directly to panel. It was a pretty easy and safe process despite what others will tell you. Just make sure when you are back feeding from the generator the main breaker is off. You wont be able to power everything but this will get you a few lights and more importantly a functional heater in an emergency.

That's what I needed to do during rolling electrical trade union strikes in the 1980s. Installed generator with a switchboard in our pool shed in the back yard and ran cable underground to the main house switchboard. Fact that wife worked for an electrical contractor made it a little cheaper.

ND has mine mouth coal fired plants. We use conveyor belts to transport the coal.
Biden administration wants to shut them down.
Insanity.

Not to worry. CO2 is working hard to fix that.

Our Worst Winters in Columbia, Missouri. You will note three consequtive bad winters in 1977. 1978 and 1979. Also 1936 and 1937. Note that they were all at the fire-up point of a new, more active solar cycle that followed a weaker cycle. Winter 1905 occurred at the start of a weak cycle that followed a stronger cycle. Winter 2021 did not compare to any of these earlier ones: 2010 and 2014 were worse. Since we expect a weak cycle 25, it will be interesting to see how winter 2022 compares. A weak cycle following a weak cycle. Perhaps WE in Middle Earth will experience a "bubble of warm happiness".
