72 degrees today in New Hampshire. The snow, which usually hangs around till early April, is totally gone. Not as warm here in Calgary but our snow is pretty well gone. However, you just never know what to expect here. We had one of our largest single day accumulation of snow in mid May about 35 years ago. Ahhh! 1987. I think we got in on that action too.

What does everyone else think? Are they right or are they wrong? Longitudinal flow concentrates the cold (and the heat) into adjacent swaths. Here in Middle Earth, we normally have huge swings in temperature. We have often threaded the needle this winter. January was 1.5C below normal. February was 1C above normal. So far March has ranged from 20 below normal to 20 above. Here, 2010, 2011 and 2014 were worse.

North America Just Suffered Coldest Winter In Years NOAA for February I think it is nonsense. As a nation this year will go down as average or slightly warmer than average by every metric. In the Northern Hemisphere Canada had some cold Eastern Europe was warm. I think Joe Bastardi had a good take on this in his Saturday Summary. Until these oceans in particularly the Pacific shed some of this heat we will likely be in a natural warming stage.
