Spring is here in Southern Alabama. My pickup gets a coat of pollen nightly. Dogwoods bloom yet? Not yet. Getting close.

Spring is right on time here in SE Texas. Winter 2021/2022 shaped up like this for us. November was warm, December was a blowtorch (warmest on record), January was very average and I think February will go down a little below average. Only thing out of the ordinary was a really warm December. It will be interesting to see if this La NIna persists or goes neutral over the next few months.

As soon as it starts setting we lose 10 degrees quickly.

Naah. This has been a cold winter for some folks, but not the Snowmageddon crisis that Astro called for. Maybe next year?

When do we decide to call time on Astro's forecast? We have few options for data. We should probably go with UAH through at least April. With a look at regions. Average temp at a particular station means little. But a long, cold spring (as compared to the current trend's norm) would be a fair test. I don't completely trust big gov's numbers for large areas. Western Warm Pool (WWP) was essentially level from 1979 to 1996. It increases from 1997 through 2016. It has been downhill since. I expect the coming following up will peak at a new low along the downward trend from 2016. Question is how much umpth the SC25 peak will put in Nino's sails. Geothermal remains an input. Question is how much. Posted paper suggested (estimated) geothermal at 1/4 or less of solar. That is larger than the mainstream suggests ... and is potentially significant.

Same here ... between longitudinal waves in February. Colder than 2021 in January and warmer in December and February. Warmest 3-mth winter(Dec-Feb) since 2017. Much warmer than 2010 and 2011.

Was a beautiful afternoon on the bay yesterday. First dog walk of the year in a tshirt and sandals. I'm hearing a few songbirds as well this morning. Spring is in the air.

This time of the year is beautiful on Galveston Bay. Water temps in the upper 50's moderate the temps during both daytime and nighttime hours. Only negative is the fog which can get thick this time of year. About like July in San Francisco...

When do we decide to call time on Astro's forecast? It may be early to call time just yet. It was an up and down year. In December the PNW looked like they were going to break all kinds of snowfall records for the year. Then the atmospheric river stopped flowing and its been a near record dry January and February. In the South December was extremely warm, cooled off in January... To be honest it was not the snowmaggeddon and brutal winter he had forecast for most of the U.S. or Europe. But it aint over yet either. I am interested to see how this spring progresses as recent trends seem to indicate milder winters but longer, colder and wet springs. Lets get through March though before we pass judgement.
