We had a brief return to winter but than it warmed up again. Our yard at work often gets dry enough in winter that we can have some pretty good dust storms that rival the ones we get in summer. The difference this year is that the north part of our yard is relatively sheltered so usually stays somewhat frozen until spring. This is the first time I can recall that it dried up enough to also produce lots of dust in early to mid February. We got a bit of snow last night and some more in the forecast but so far this has been a much milder winter than the last few years.

Looks like we will get another round of snow. National weather service says 3-5 inches. Weather Channel says 7-12 inches.

Thing is, disruption caused by wind is relatively to location. Trees will grow to survive what they normally encounter, trees in Dalmatia Croatia for eg routinely experience winds of 100mph, UK trees don't experience anything like that. Same with structures, any british builder in the south thinking "that'll do" is prob right 99.99% of conditions, it's the 0.01% that tests their work. For whatever the laziness of Croatian builders may be with regards to timeliness....(speaking from experience) they know their efforts will be tested that winter!

Wind isn’t much of an event on LI until it gets to 50+ mph gusts. We have 60 mph gusts predicted today😳 At my cabin the high winds account for most of my fire wood! I do take the wind chimes down whenever the forecast calls for up to 40. Not a problem during winter since they come inside when the leaves fall and don’t go back out until mid spring.

And winds "with a twist" add a whole new dimension. Lost a very large hackberry that shaded 2/3 of the house some years back. House of 1950s frame construction didn't even shudder as the tree dropped (in pieces) on top of it. Smashed in an eve as one extension of the trunk dropped straight down and leaned up against it. NWS claimed straight-line winds, but I saw rootballs of other trees that were obviously twisted. Isolated pockets of damage in a path across the neighborhood as small vortices dropped out of the sky and went back up. The squirrels' story was that the Great Satan had called in an airstrike on their homes.

Hang on there Cousins. She's blowing up an old-time a gale. Got sent home from site at 11am, walkways, fences, anything not tied down went over, 4 trees in road on 30 minute journey.

So lots of firewood for the cutting and taking? Is that acceptable with a verbal request? Glad to hear it wasn't worse.
