Houston update. Western suburbs had some sleet and icy bridges last night. Rest of metro area fine. 30 degrees here in San Leon with a 20mph North wind. Dog walk was brutal this morning. High today 42 predicted. Normal high is in the low 60's. Brrrr By mid-week we are supposed to be mid-40s.

I am sad to report, my little ski hill has had a paltry snow yea so far. While we did, and thank the Gods, get a lot of snow in Dec, since then we have had scant little more, even buds on trees are evident. The extra snow we do get comes in spurts, a few inches one day, but then many days with none. We have been skiing on old snow, refrozen snow and what feels like the stuff they are skiing on in Beijing. This is not a banner year and does not seem to indicate a precursor to massive global cooling. If anything, it is following models predictive of global warming for our region. Sad, sad, sad. "Very deceptive snow coverage in places. Be extra cautious! Roxoff & Rock Face were bare rock prior to this storm cycle." summitatsnoqualmie.com/

We got almost 4" of rain here on the Mississippi Coast, almost an inch after the front went through and temps dropped into the 40s. It's in the mid 30s F this morning, with a pretty sharp north breeze. The Frenchie wasn't happy I made him go out and walk. Memory test. How many winters in the last 10 have you got something similar? The temperatures are not unusual. Happen every year. 4" of rain in 24 hours in early February doesn't happen so often. All the time in March and April, not so much in Feb, but it's hardly unprecedented.

half an inch an hour predicted on my shared but small offshore island tomorrow. (2500 acres)
We get about 3 such events every decade but they tend to be clustered so 300mm this week then again in three weeks interspersed with 100mm nights.
been hot and dry no rain for 70 days very dry so kind of welcome. Its a decaying TC sliding down from the Tropics the first to not miss (probably) the others were stolen by Ratty and his mob.
La Nina!

In 10 days Feb. will be half over. My orchids are blooming like crazy.

Got up to 42+ today and the Weather Channel is forecasting 40s and 50s as far as the models go. Half our snow cover is gone in the last two days. Messy, but sun and a moderate air mass are encouraging. The orchids have pulled out the violins.

Today we are warmer than Tallahasse, FL at 56F. Next 10 days forecast as warm. But the Weather Channel tells me that Mt. Everest is melting.

I’ve heard some real doozies from them over the last few years. Probably the most ridiculous one I can recall off hand is that because of climate change, frogs & toads may have a harder time finding each because of the changes in humidity affecting the tones of their mating calls. Yeah sure. Like those species have never had to deal with that before but of course it’s all about the supposed accelerating pace of climate change because of us.

It's their mating call.
