Stations are getting refilled overnight where I am. As far as I can tell, the only issue is people taking more then normal. I saw one guy last night fill 2 5 gallon containers and put them on his back seat.....

acidohm, One would think that after the panic buying is over fuel sales will be flat for a while. Exactly...still, stations empty again this evening. We are on a busy connecting road between cambridge-oxford and 2 motorways are about 10 miles away. Think alot of passing traffic is stopping opportunistically as we're not a big town. But you gotta wonder, how many people have tanks more full then normal. I normally fill sun evening and that last all week. Be dammed sure I'm keeping if full now. If I don't get to work I don't get paid!

And more importantly do you have a backup heat source? Gas boiler Glenn. I have a generator I use for site work and several regulation jerry cans. I'll be buying a couple of fan heaters before any potential cold weather. Home has 150mm cavity insulation and 400mm in the loft, it loses little heat but we are elevated and there's nothing to our east but fields. We're quite exposed to Beast from the East! Plus I drive a pickup with slightly oversized AT tyres and suspension lift. I drive it through areas on building sites your typical van can't go especially wet mud after a decent rain. I consider it education in how the 4x4 system handles and familiarisation. There would have to be alot of snow to immobilise me, alot more then most people. Thanks for asking, I'm not a prepped...but maybe I am a preparer.

You don't have to go full out "prepper" but a little extra never hurt. We don't have the Beast from the East but we do have the occasional "Blue Norther" and last years freeze, ice storm and power outage here in Texas taught me that having a little extra is a good thing. Especially when it comes to a back up heat source. In my case it was a fireplace but fuel for it was a little bit of a challenge.

One guy's technique to heep the furnace on in a power outage. Anybody have recommendations to improvements on his technique. As with a stand-alone generator and electical inputs to the house and furnace. I have a nat. gas furnace, but if the fan goes off, the furnace shuts down. Need a workaround.

For wiring up the connections between my furnace and freezer to an outside connection to a small gas generator. My furnace fuel is natural gas but when the electic goes out, it shuts down. Don't mind dark as I have headlamps. I have campstoves for cooking. I DO mind being cold.

The satellite temperature anomaly for September was +0.25degC, a slight increase on the August figure.
a) ALL the Southern Hemisphere continents have had exceptionally cold winters, including Antarctica.
b) Arctic Ice seems to be recovering very smartly, and East Asia seems exceptionally cold at the moment.
c) Greenland seems to be accumulating mass very quickly, and melting in the Northern Hemisphere summer was exceptionally low.
d) We are likely entering a La Nina period, which cools the Pacific Oceam.
I am beginning to wonder what the satellites are actually measuring, as it does not seem to accord with real world human experience.

The UAH global and tropical anomalies tend to lag directional turns in ENSO by 2-3 months. The tropics follow closer. Since 1979, NOAA satellites have been carrying instruments which measure the natural microwave thermal emissions from oxygen in the atmosphere. The intensity of the signals these microwave radiometers measure at different microwave frequencies is directly proportional to the temperature of different, deep layers of the atmosphere.

When the a pole is warm the matching hemispherical average tends to be high also. I think related to enthalpy. We have a cold Antarctic and a cold Southern hemisphere the north the reverse for at least 6 months generally. (but above average overall) climatereanalyzer.org/wx/DailySummary/#t2anomI think I got this right
