glad i'm price locked for 2 yrs ...and with a big company I was price locked but my gas supplier has just gone bust and I'm expecting the electric supplier to go the same way, looks like I'll be paying an extra £250 pa for both utilities.

This is escalating like burst pipes in frozen houses during a severe winter.
That's probably a tasteless analogy....

In the U.S. we can crank up shale gas production pretty fast. They don't have that capability in Europe and are dependent on natural gas from Russia. I do not want to be dependent on Putin's Russia for anything. From the files of you can't fix stupid: "Wood burners: Most polluting fuels to be banned in the home". It would seem in their ultimate wisdom regulators in England banned the sale of traditional bagged coal and the sales of wet wood in small units last February. Fine particulate pollution or not I am not losing the ability to keep my family warm should the power or gas go out. The particulate police are just going to have to catch me. If I lived there I would have a cache of pallet wood or coal on hand to use in an emergency. Knowing myself I would probably start a black market business selling firewood. www.bbc.com/news/uk-51581817www.reuters.com/business/energy/russias-gazprom-warns-new-records-natural-gas-prices-europe-2021-09-17/
