We seem to have run out of cold for the moment, but we're not short on wet.

Adapting your gas furnace to run on alternate electrical sources in a power outage. Comments on this guy's technique?

When it gets cold and snow is forecast, we put the equipment we might need in that building as it is heated to about 45-50F so the engines start better. We were wondering how to open the door if the power went out. Dad did a similar hookup for one of our shop door openers so we can just connect it to a small generator to open the door if the power is out.
Using a car or truck as a generator is not very green. I think it would burn a lot of fuel for the power made. I guess you do what you have to do in an emergency, but how do you get more fuel in the vehicle if you burn it all to keep your lights on?

Easy to do. Make sure your inverter is large enough.

Adapting your gas furnace to run on alternate electrical sources in a power outage. Comments on this guy's technique? Having ridden out multiple Hurricanes and the killer freeze of 2021 I don't have an issue at all with it. A couple of wire nuts would be just as good. I don't think you are "supposed" to do it but if you shut off the main and have a 220V generator big enough you can simply make a male/male heavy duty extension cord and back feed it through your dryer or any 220v outlet. Key words are make sure the main breaker is shut off so you are not powering the grid and risking the life of linemen. And make sure you homemade male/male extension cord is big enough to keep the generator far enough away from your house so you are not getting carbon monoxide poisoning...

Slightly odd forecast, sudden zonal reversal from surface to strat NH. Not out of keeping with medium range forecast for blocking last couple of weeks. It's a bit like an SSW which instantly teleconnects to surface....there's usually a delay, as can be seen in downward progression of orange in recent history. Still just a forecast for now.
