That's really cold for a high. Yes, it is really cold for a high. But is just plain really cold. Right now, 2-3 inches of the wettest snow i have seen in a long time. Temperature is right at freezing. We too are getting VERY WET snow. Temps right at or slightly above freezing ... so it's not accumulating ... and it's really replenishing our water table. But -12F by Friday.

We probably had about 8-9 inches total. Spent all day today moving snow from various places.
Might get another 3-5 Thursday night into Friday. High on Sunday is now -6F with 10-20 mph winds.
Too @#*$& cold.
Pardon my language.

I generally associate atmospheric rivers with Pacific systems and the US West Coast ... but these current ones are coming up from the the Gulf? May account for our VERY WET snow. Generally our dry season. Might as well blame it on El Nino. The Ninos are getting weaker and the Ninas are getting stronger. At least at this part of the solar cycle. This Nino is very early in the cycle. And we assume that lower stratosphere water vapor (Hunga Tonga) is capping IR outgoing. Our insulation. We will need it if overall solar inputs are down. We are shedding accumulated heat and pressure patterns are shifting. Minus 12F is chilly ... but we are rated minus 20 or 25F.

Oh, the irony. Winter Wedding Postponed Due to Winter WeatherI don't know this couple. This was just a headline this morning. Pender is about 135 miles north of me. Wish them the best anyway. We have probably had about a foot of snow in the last week. The conditions Friday and Saturday were terrible. 0F and falling temps with wind. -12F this morning. Wind chill was about -34. Here is a link to the Wikipedia for the town I live in . Ratty asked where I was. I couldn't find a map i liked so I gave up.

Beautiful day in Alabama. Lower 20's forecast for this week as lows. Schools may be closed because of the extreme cold.
No, I am not kidding.

I'm from Texas just south of Houston and the mere mention of freezing rain or sleet will cancel school. Out of an "abundance of caution". When I was growing up it was never cancelled unless it was a full blown ice storm...

Thanks. PS: One of my teaching posts was in a town of 250, loved it.
