We are in a somewhat typical pattern when solar cycles are low in output. Some call it climate, problem is, it is repeated so CO2 is not the primary driver of our current weather. I'm sure I can find a Mann willing to subsidize pork hock prices. Hearing that Michael Mann's childhood nickname was 'Piggy' wouldn't surprise .....

From 110mmt down to around 85mmt. Lot of corn lost quickly. Coffee beans as well

Middle Earth hay report. Bad summer for grass regardless of the huge rainfall. Our normal hay production in one cutting averages in the high 80s (total large bales). This year 57 bales. The warm season native grasses seriously underperformed. Lack of heat has been an issue. Unknown to me how a weak sun translates into other factors.

Between the lower production and having to time harvest between rainy spells I'd say it seems harder. That's what I heard here.

Problems in transport as well as certain crops.
Just got a 50-lb bag of hard red winter wheat through one of our local natural foods stores ... $1.84 a lb and that included shipping. May buy another. Our local Krogers is a good place for plastic 1 and 5lb bags of lentils and dry split green peas. Every few days I check back and grab what they have on the shelf. The 5 to 10lb bags of brown rice are getting harder to find ... so back to the bulk bins at the natural food store. They are all going in a cool, dry place. Gonna visit the Amish too.
Sig. The wheat is coming in the tough 50-lb paper sacks. Do you think they would store better in 5-gallon pails with oxygen absorbers?

Paper are better. Wheat is one of those crops that requires some ventilation to store long term.

Ran across this article on diversity and the beescape. Its very logical and my own efforts support their results. Several years ago I introduced many perennial flowering plant into the fringes of my urban landscape. Many transplanted from farm seeds I have sown. The Echinacea and wild onions in particular have gone wild. And this year they exploded. And so did my bumble bee population. Huge numbers everywhere. I and they live together harmoniously. phys.org/news/2021-06-midwest-bumble-bees-declined-farmed.html

Batwing mowers are the worst invention ever. Farmers think the road ditches need to be lawns.

Batwing mowers are the worst invention ever. Farmers think the road ditches need to be lawns. You would think, that of all people, farmers should understand the importance of pollenizers to the whole ecosystem. Monsanto is not very good at that. They just kill things.

An Assessment of the Crop and Ag Market situation from Electroverse (at least partially based on Bloomberg). It doesn't look pretty. I will repeat my off-the-cuff suggestion that the US government should buy up the entire 2021 US grain (cereals and legumes) production, or the contracts (at good prices to farmers) and ensure it is sold to our friends and local suppliers. Nothing for China (unless it's the scraps). In a period of shortages, the government should ensure that our people and our friends are taken care of first. Coruption and graft to be severely punished. Ok. Tell me where I'm wrong. electroverse.net/a-catalog-of-crop-failures/

CHINA 2021 Floods and Food Production Always wonder where David gets his on-the-ground Chinese imagery. Here is an article with NASA recent imagery. earthobservatory.nasa.gov/images/148623/flooding-in-central-chinaBack-to-back flood years has got to be having some severe cumulative effects on Chinese food production and supplies. Combiined with cold and flood issues in other global ag regions, shortages should be showing up in futures markets. This issue has not been well-covered in the American press. Better to put away enough food for the family now, before any shortages and the full price impact is felt. The CCP is not going to tell the World the extent of the problem. Perhaps our intelligence agencies know ... but they won't tell us either. One wonders if our government(s) really has our back. We know for sure that most of the press doesn't.
