I'm in a bit of a unusual position. I do what I'm told is alot of miles/year, 20,000....no sniggering from the yanks or antipodeans please 😉 My previous truck did 24mpg, I'd paid it off, 2nd hand purchase anyway... At 1.85/ltr it could easily cost me £750/mth in fuel. Plus it was at 150,000 miles so maintenance costs came often. The 2yr old ev I bought @£300/mth, costs £120/mth @27p/kwh. So I had higher then average running costs previously and can make good savings. MG ZS is ~£30,000 new, mine has 180mile range, New model has 270. In nearly 3 months, I haven't had to charge away from home once, and have never not been comfortably above 20% battery. I'll prob swap it for new model in 18-24 months. Do you charge your vehicles indoors at night ... while you are sleeping? Nah, just charge on drive where I sleep in her Ratty 😉

I may eventually get an EV for some shorter in-town trips just because most of my in-town trips are so short. I do dislike the additional insurance, storage, maintenance, etc for another vehicle just for in-town junkets, but nevertheless it does occur to me. I just sold a 13 year old Suburban with 220k miles and bought a Ram 2500. Trip to see my daughter at 1600 miles round trip Suburban got 14.9 MPG. Ram got 21.4 MPG. That is a huge improvement. Trip is 11 hours with no construction or accident delays. We can make it with one or two stops. Bio breaks are the defining issue. Even with diesel fuel costs more than gasoline, the improvement is phenomenal. I know the maintenance for diesel will be higher, but I have to say it is a great vehicle with a lot of power, comfort, safety, and amenities. No worries with cold weather either.

Big money pushing hard while consumers pay through the nose.
