Willowbank Raceway released an official statement citing safety concerns as the primary reason for the ban.

Their investigations into regulations from Motorsport Australia and the National Electric Drag Racing Association (NEDRA) highlighted the following risks associated with racing EVs:

Battery Hazards: EV batteries can release toxic and flammable gases after a collision.
First Responder Safety: Emergency crews may face difficulties confirming if the vehicle is powered off or safely accessible.
Electrical Risks: In the event of an incident where the driver is unconscious, the car’s chassis could become live, putting responders at risk.
Towing Challenges: With the power disconnected, EVs might not roll, making towing difficult with the venue’s current equipment.
Special Fire Suppression Needs: EV fires require unique equipment, like water baths, that aren’t standard at the track.

Terrified friends burned to death 'trapped inside crashed Tesla after its electronic doors failed'

Four friends died in a burning Tesla after a crash broke the car's electronic door handles, it is claimed.

A woman in her 20s was the only survivor of the fiery October 24 crash after Rick Harper, a heroic Canada Post employee, smashed the window of the blazing Model Y with a metal pole.

Four of her friends, identified as 25-year-old Neelraj Gohil, his sister Ketaba Gohil, 29, Jay Sisodiya and Digvijay Patel all died in the tragedy.

A little education from someone who has repaired and built cars for 45 years, inside your cars door, are a latch, inner and outer door handles, all connected by small steel rods or cables, the idea is you can get out of your car or into your car.
Its illegal for instance to not have a working inside and outside door handle, incase of an accident.
Some new electric vehicles have taken out the steel rods or cables and fitted an electronic opener, which is why in an accident, doors cannot be opened.
This is a dangerous idea, and cars that do this should not be able to be registered.

There are ways to open Tesla doors on a vehicle without power, BUT THEY VARY BY MODEL ....

A recent Arizona incident in which a toddler was trapped in a Tesla Model Y vehicle until firefighters arrived is renewing concerns about the brand's door locks. The woman, Renee Sanchez, told a local TV station that after she strapped her 20-month-old granddaughter into her Tesla for a trip to the zoo, she was suddenly locked out of the car without warning.

"My phone key wouldn't open it. My card key wouldn't open it," Sanchez told the station. She said her granddaughter was scared and cried, but, "Oh my God, this could have been so much worse."

Eventually, firefighters arrived and broke a window, and the child was upset but unharmed. The culprit was the EV's 12-volt battery, which powers functions including the car's automatic door locks. Tesla owners are supposed to receive multiple notifications before a battery failure like this, but Sanchez said she confirmed with Tesla's service department that she never got those warnings.
