My BIG Nissan Frontier 4x4 still crushes the competition. At age 11 and only 51K miles it still purrs like a juvenile. I've thought about modifying it to emit the Rebel Yell on takeoff ... but that is still on hold.

Just Stop Oil has worked out EVs don't actually solve anything and use fossil fuels indirectly.

maintaining and using these types of vehicles is the sensible course, absolutely. These slightly older machines should be cherished at this point. rebuildable, owner serviceable mechanicals. You know, EVs are not the only threat which I see presenting itself to car and truck owners, these newer direct injected twin turbo variable valve timed engines are a problem. They offer great economy, torque, hp, so people are buying them. BUT, they are basically un rebuildable and way too expensive to replace. Expensive disposable engines. Not the sensible way to go for thinking men. I like my 2002 V6 F150. I also have a 2016 V6 ecoboost which is much better on paper, but not the right way to go. Spooky mechanically expensive sword over our heads.

We live in a disposable world. And I thought it was supposed to be "Green". My mistake.

I think it's fair to say the hybrids drive very nicely stop at lights silence, accelerate away first 100M silence and maybe 20% more economical.
If they were smart they would make the engines vastly smaller and compensate with more short run electrics. batteries need have a range no further than 10Kms for steep long hills.
I was reflecting on my Audi S4 replete with a 3 liter supercharged motor, sitting above it is the RS4 at the time mine was built it had a 4.2 liter V8 with turbos. the latest version of the RS4 has a 2 liter turbo charged 4 cylinder and its complimented with electric such that it out performs the V8 by a considerable margin.
The car could do it all with a 2 cylinder 800cc motor in all respects but sound. But then there is synthetic V8 sounds.
People want cars that are relatively economic, cars should do 20Km/liter or something like 50mpg in the US speak.

Far more environmentally friendly once a machine has had huge energy invested in its creation.....keep it going as long as possible! A world of power in that compact V6. Used to require a V8 for that. Can't rave about the mileage, but I don't drive as far as I used to. And parallel parking with an extended bed is challenging.
Marta had a Prius at one time. It was OK but I always felt I was in a very fragile tin can. And on snow and ice .. foget about it. And the always possible cost of a new battery?

Well lets be clear virtually all EV's run on marginal electrical production or coal.
EV's are about narcissism and being cool or in old speak pulling chicks my sympathy is zero. The only question is are the chicks still impressed?
