According to Astromet we are 17 days away from the start of a brutal winter. I don't know how cold it will be but one thing is for certain. It's going to feel a lot colder for those people in Europe who can't afford to heat their homes. It seems like the perfect storm is brewing with food and fuel shortages combined with a particularly cold winter. time to start a revolution me thinks Amen brother. Time to convince the politicians that WE, the customers, are the ultimate bosses, and they had better pay attention ... OR ELSE! Nothing like a LARGE crowd of angry people on their doorsteps to deliver a message. Free people do not submit to tyranny.

I recently purchased a very large pile of beautiful heat treated lumber beams I could use as firewood if Astro's forecast validates and it gets cold enough!

You'd better check that they were not treated with anything other than heat. What Happens if You Burn Pressure-Treated Wood?PS: I know you know that ....

So ... maybe 2.5 cords? That should last a while in Texas. Our winters in Flagstaff (at 7000 ft) were generally about 4 to 5 cords. But I was only heating a 1000 ft2 cabin ... and it was poorly insulated. Ditto on the NO chemicals.

And here is Big Joe Bastardi's winter forecast. NOAA is looking real lonely out there. However, given they are all government bureaucrats, do we really think there will be any accountability?

Phydeaux, Come on over and get a truckload but they are not 2 x 4's they are true 3" x 7" x 9' reclaimed heat treated lumber beams from Spain used to palletize granite slabs that I purchased for 2.50 each! I am using them to build a storage shed but the scraps will absolutely be used in my fireplace this winter if Astro's forecast pans out. I figured at 2.50 each they were really cheap and I just can't turn down a good deal. I learned last winter when we were freezing to death without power for four days that heat treated pallets make excellent firewood because they are so dry...

And the MetOffice have predicted a mild an windy winter. Central Europe is expected to be cold but Western Europe will be wet and windy... Popcorn at the ready, I watch with baited breath to see how this turns out....

Popcorn at the ready, I watch with baited breath to see how this turns out.... I doubt the Met's ability (or anyones) really to predict anything outside of 10 days. But wet and windy for Western Europe much means nasty to me. I used to work in the oilfield and travelled across much of the U.S. working. By Far North Dakota winters were the worst. Frigid and the wind does not stop... But one of the worst winters I endured outside of N.D. was in Arkansas where it was rainy and cold the entire time I was there. Most nights it was cold enough to freeze and most days the ice would melt to a slushy mess. Damp, rainy weather with frequent ice storms made my stay there miserable.

Theodore White will be correct, in fact, I would not be surprised if November and December 2021 felt like January.
