Here in Calgary we’ve been having some relatively balmy weather for the last few weeks. Prior to this we had some pretty chilly conditions for about a month and a fair bit of snow. Southern Albert is famous for warm chinook winds that can really change conditions overnight. We’ve been going through this nice warm spell lately because of them. Not unusual. Back in 1981/82 while I was working construction jobs, we had pretty well the whole of January & February with above average temperatures as chinooks rolled in one right after another. It’s been like this for hundreds of thousands of years yet when Leonardo DiCaprio was involved with the production of The Revenant back in 2014 and witnessed a particularly strong chinook in action and made the ridiculous statement he was witnessing climate change in action.
Calgary! I saw the 3 Stooges live in the Saddledome at the Stampede. I was there in 63.

NWS is telling us to expect 8" to 18" of snow over the next two days.
There is plenty of winter to go, at least 13 weeks more to go from February 2, 2022.

Don't be greedy, we have a snow drought in UK 😓
I sent a note to Joe Bastardi to forward any more snow addressed to us over your way. If everyone else does the same, you could be neck deep before spring.

Maybe for you it’s a red splash of tulips blooming in your backyard. Maybe it’s the American robin’s cheerful song. Maybe you think of a speckled fawn standing beside her mother in a bright green meadow.
When Eastern Washington University biology professor Robin O’Quinn thinks of spring, she thinks of the trees.
“I see the willow trees and the poplars start to take color onto the tips of their branches,” O’Quinn said. “That’s starting to happen now.”

Seems that the worst of it is past us. Lots of drifting so hard to tell true depth. Better than what lies to our south ... 2000 miles of freezing rain. The worst of the worst.
On the bright(?) side, the groundhog agrees with Astro.

This is a pretty impressive North and Central American temp anomaly map through February 5. I know they are anomalies, but not sure I've seen one of these go all the way to Honduras. Sorry Acid. You seem to be caught in a poleward moving warm plume.
Frozen precipitation expected in the Houston metro area tonight. Friday morning mayhem on the freeways guaranteed.
It takes very little when folks are not accustomed to it. Be safe.
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.” -Samuel Adams
