One of the main motivations for starting this Forum was to enable new members to join the group of folks using Solarcycle24. The Administrator of that forum was no longer involved and he didn’t leave us the keys! Hello Everyone - I've received quite the warm welcome via the thread I started regarding Suspicious Observers - I'm just an average Joe, who now works from home full time (thanks covid). I live in a rural part of east / central Pennsylvania and second to my family would be a 'healthy' love of whitetail bow hunting - guess the name may give that away. I'm also a bit of a weather nerd. Glad to be able to participate and thank you all.

If I remember correctly, the first time I encountered solarham discussions was during/near the period of "unprecedented" hurricane activity (2005 or perhaps shortly after), and probably even through a posting from someone on wunderground discussions mentioning 'this' site.
CAGW propaganda was a constant frustration to my dad, originally an ICBM missile engineer at Boeing in the 60s, and my uncle, a mission control specialist during the Apollo missions (and onwards) at NASA. So my political upbringing was Tommy Douglas left-wing from my Saskatchewan-born dad (Canadians will understand), but with a strong science indoctrination, literally starting from when I was a toddler.
So finding like-minded individuals (don't worry - politics evolve), was a god-send. I studied math/physics, but have IT as my career, and secretly dream that someday I will catch up on the latest in theoretical physics - maybe as a retirement hobby:-p That is if senility spares me.
Anyways, all of your thoughtful and industrious discussions have quite frankly and ultimately kept me sane, even to the dismay of many of my friends and family.

I grew up in a medium-sized University town (Columbia, Missouri) ... recently a blue liberal enclave surrounded by a sea of red. My father and his brothers (sisters too) were first generaton off the farm just north of here ... 1830s transplants from Virginia. Farm boys turned tradesmen in the wake of the Great Depression and WWII. Raised with a rifle in my hands by "the boys" who loved watching their Swiss and German mausers kick my butt on the old family farm.  We still have it. Entered college as a geology major and followed it up in geography. Spatial analysis fascinated me ... loved maps. Supported myself in geographic information systems and remote sensing (a data guy) ... going on the travel circuit from Missouri to Colorado to Alaska to Florida to the Middle East to the Colorado Plateau, before returning to Columbia. Didn't really pay that much attention to the climate-CO2 issue till late in my stay with the USGS in Flagstaff, AZ. Didn't take too long to get the impression that "something wasn't right". The more I looked, the more it smelled. Shortly after returning to Columbia in 2010, I found Solarcycle24. |
