The PDO has been running very cold for some time. The April number was -3.05C the lowest April reading on record which goes back to 1900. There are some other interesting indicator relationships between PDO, ENSO, IOD and solar activity. La Nina (Negative Reverse-SOI) is related to Negative PDO. But so are strong negative IODs. Note the three periods in the 1890s, 1950s and now (2020s) where very negative PDOs coincide with concentrations of negative IODs, negative ENSO periods and low solar activity. Or in the case of SC19 a change in solar trend. We may find ourselves in a similar situation now. These periods are also 60 to 70 years apart.

You seen any of this up your way Blu? Even Schumer the Doomer can't seem to see the non-logic of the opposite sides of his mouth.
It’s also been exceptionally frigid across the Northeast in recent weeks where unprecedented frosts have been wiping out the region’s Orchards and Vineyards.
It’s been so cold, in fact, that even the U.S. Senate has called on the USDA to issue a ‘crop disaster declaration’ in order to provide emergency relief to those Northeast farms devastated by the freeze, which amounts to thousands of acres.
“New York’s agricultural industry is essential to the economy and well-being of our state,” commented U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand on understanding that some NY vineyards have been completely wiped out by the cold, suffering a 100% loss.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer also chimed in, “From the Rochester-Finger Lakes to the Capital Region, Southern Tier, and the Hudson Valley, New York’s vineyards and orchards are the beating heart of our agricultural and tourism economy, but [the recent] frost has risked freezing the future for many of these family-owned businesses. With apple and grape buds hit by extraordinarily low temperatures in May, the crop losses that farmers across the state are now seeing will have detrimental effects throughout the year,” Schumer said in a news release.
“That is why I am calling on the U.S. Department of Agriculture to stand ready in two key ways: first, by ensuring that direct reimbursements go out quickly to eligible growers with tree and vine damage through the Tree Assistance Program; and second, by preparing all resources and to be ready, if requested, to approve a disaster declaration and assist farmers and growers in the process of reporting losses and damages. We can’t let New York’s beautiful orchards and renowned wine country be frozen over, and the USDA must do everything in their power to provide swift relief to our hardworking growers,” Schumer noted.

A warm spell in April followed by normal early May and then some chilly overnight/mornings last week or so. Meh...it's weather. Lots of smoke from Canada though. BTW, politicians are mostly useless shills. Their suck quotient is directly proportional to their time in office.

It was 60F for the high here in Middle Earth today. That is "unheard of" for mid-June.

Currently in caravan in Cornwall.
Torrential rain has been lashing this evening, late afternoon I noticed merchant ships are anchoring close to shore including 3 high bowed, low rear decked vessels that can only be described as recovery/towing ships.
60mph winds forecast tomorrow.
Guess it won't be a beach day.....
Cards and booze have been a vital source of entertainment this evening, fun regardless 🍻
I've been coming to these parts for nearly 40 years, it's more about being here for the memories then having what you might expect to be a perfect holiday.
I think tomorrow might be memorable!

I looked at the commentary on Dr Roy Spencer's blog.
Australia's average temp anomaly increased from +0.06 degC in June to +1.43 degC in July.
By any criteria, that is an astonishing rise. Oz is a big place!!
Why do I have a suspicion that there are no recent precedents for what is happening. I am not sure forecasting using previous large El Nino events is going to work.

Australia has lifted in temperature, saw it on TV.
But the reality is somewhat different in my mind.
My analysis is that the world saw a big rise in average temperature but to a large extent it was driven by a big rise in the Antarctic area, a large body of very dry cold air and also very easy to lift in temperature as the moisture content starts low and lifts very slightly.
It will fall very easily also. Lets see.
Cold in NZ stolen Australia's cold air, roads closed snow, ski fields excited etc. hard blue sky fishing crap.

What is the other recent "unprecedented" potential climate affecting event? Hunga Tonga. Yet no one in the media, or amongst the climate hysterics is talking about it. It doesn't fit the doom narrative.

I'm still clinging on to the story up in the Artic. All these stories of rising temperatures associated with the El Nino are starting to put doubts in my mind.

I'm still clinging on to the story up in the Artic. All these stories of rising temperatures associated with the El Nino are starting to put doubts in my mind. I can't quite couple air and sea temps in my mind, in the air to sea direction. It's easy to see how a warm sea can raise air temp, but not the other way. With sea temp I'd be more concerned about cloud cover, or, sea ice cover (assuming daylight hours)
