In my part of the world (according to the NWS). November was 1.4 degrees F below normal and December was 1.7 degrees above normal. January is starting off warm but long range forecasts indicate we may get another arctic chill towards the end of the month. We will see.

Every time the tropical Pacific gets "cold" (La Nina) in the winter, California floods. Global warming for sure. You will recognize many of these years.
Think this winter is wet in Modesto area? Here are some past events that may make you think twice

Electroverse is usually a good source of world weather data ... that is hard to find otherwise.

Poor Fox. Here's the headline .... Here's why the US has the lowest snow cover in over a decade now seems
And they NEVER tell you why. Catch bait. Flagstaff is once again being buried in snow ... just like 2009-10 of SC24 ... and California is getting drowned ... just like back then too ... only two years later in the cycle sequence. I moved back to COMO summer of 2010. Winter 2011-12 was mild here. February was VERY warm. I was in shirtsleeves most of the month. That was followed by a DRY summer ... particularly early. And it eased off later. This occurred across the 36-44 Mth mark (2012) ... the first peak of SC24 and into a sunspot backoff. SC25 first peak now seems like it will be higher than SC24 based on the 2-week running average ... and some forecasters are calling for Mid-western drought for the next two years. Will another "sunspot backoff" (technical term ) occur in the next few months of SC25. Possible. And, if so, will this be accompanied by Mid-western drought? Farmers would certainly like to know. Shawn Hackett seems to think so. And he's put his rs eputation where his mouth is. Refreshing. www.linkedin.com/pulse/el-nino-coming-2023-gleissberg-100-year-drought-cycle-shawn-hackett/?trackingId=R%2BnWjEbGR0ah0aEV9bmvDw%3D%3D .
There is an old farmers' saying in these parts thant you're never more than a week away from a drought. I never argue with old farmers. Their livelihood is on the line.
So far in January SC25 is on a roll, and, on a 14-day running average, has exceeded SC24. And may reach a higher 14-day peak 6 weeks later OR more.
Crunch time for comparison to the SC24 Midwestern drought will be over the next 14 weeks or so. If Midwestern 2023 spring is dry and SC25 cycle activity is low farmers will worry. But here at the edge of the "great grasslands" the wind still blows and the grass still grows.

Winters and groups of winters can often be differentiated by their extremes. In Asia, this winter has had many extremes and they continue. And now Europe ... and soon US.
about a thousand ships are currently stuck in Laizhou Bay in the eastern Bohai Sea, according to China Daily. Some 10,500 square miles (27,000 km2) of sea surface has frozen in Bohai Bay, the greatest ice extent since records began, according to the Chinese Meteorological Association.

"It's" been reloading ... and now the assault begins. But we are a month past the solstice and the days are getting longer. The first orchid bloom just appeared.

From Electroverse.co Full-Blown Arctic Outbreak To Engulf Europe Starting Sunday
Atmospheric conditions have been hinting at it for weeks, now the weather models are finally forecasting it. Joining the likes of Asia and North America, the European continent is set to endure for its own full-blown Arctic Outbreak.
Western Europe has been freezing for the past 2-or-so weeks (my frozen water pipes here in Central Portugal can attest), but latest GFS runs are forecasting a continent-encasing and long-lasting polar plunge staring this Sunday, Feb 5, sweeping from the UK to Turkey, from Norway to North Africa:
