With chilly Seattle temps, Thursday could tie for coldest May 12 May 12, 2022 www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/weather/seattle-temps-could-tie-coldest-may-12-on-record/#commentsThere are a lot of jokes about spring in the Pacific Northwest. For example, if you ask what daylight saving time means in Seattle, you may hear as an answer “an extra hour of rain.” Another common joke has a tourist say “I can’t believe it, I’ve been here an entire week and it’s done nothing but rain. When do you have summer here?” “Well, that’s hard to say,” replies the local. “Last year, it was on a Wednesday.” But even by our standards, this year is really something else.

I just looked at the 24th May temperature forecast for N. America.
Seems to be an awful amount of freeze weather in the Western Prairies.[still]
I am not a cereals farmer, but if I was, I think I might be a little concerned.

Not sure where to put this? So I will post it here An article that caught my eye. And then my surprise to find in the comments thread the comment by professor Cliff Mass at the University of Washington I have copied and posted below. www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/environment/april-rains-not-nearly-enough-to-overcome-northwest-drought-wildfire-risk-experts-say/#comments"This article is both outdated and leaves a totally inaccurate impression. First, being outdated....US Drought Monitor has DROPPED Extreme drought in eastern Washington. Second, that index has been too slow to react to changing conditions over the past months. There is no severe drought in eastern Washington. Snowpack is good. Reservoir levels are excellent. Streamflow is good. Projected streamflow is good. Soil moisture is ABOVE NORMAL. Irrigated and non-irrigated crops will be fine. There were dry conditions in the PAST and the only impacts are lessened deep ground moisture, which has little impact. There is no reason to expect enhanced fire danger in Washington State--just the the opposite with this extended cool/wet spring and bountiful snowpack. This kind of article makes folks worry and be concerned unnecessarily. There is no attempt to understand the actual conditions on the ground. Just disappointing."
