Recent Svensmark paper: phys.org/news/2021-10-large-effect-solar-earth-energy.html"The breakthrough is that the effect on the Earth's energy budget has been quantified directly using detailed satellite observations from the CERES instrument on NASA's Terra and Aqua satellites. The observation is that Earth absorbs almost 2 W/m2 extra energy within 4 to 6 days of the cosmic-ray minimum."

This is an important process paper. Thank you hrizzo. How have you been?

This is an important process paper. Thank you hrizzo. How have you been? Quite fine, thanks. Doing my matinal walking by the Ebro river (in Zaragoza we have a saying: "Nine months of winter, three months of inferno", enjoying the "cierzo", a cold wind from the NW that is always blowing hard), and watching how my grandchildren grow. So, why to worry about covid or heart problems? Not me, of course.

So, why to worry about covid or heart problems? Not me, of course. In 2019, Marta and I drove Catalonia from Barcelona to Girona to Besalu then down the Costa Brava. In 2018 we wandered from Madrid to Granada and Malaga. We had plans to go back in 2020 and 2021 ... but not to be. And probably not in 2022 either. They seem to fear my unvaccinatedness and acquired immunity. A shame as I have an urge for flamenco and Spanish guitar. Valencia, Granada, Cordoba and Seville. But alas, I am an outcast.

We saw some earlier variations on this. The first two years of sunspots for SC25 versus SC23 and SC24 are below. Sunspots are current through December, 2021. I suspect that the terminator event may have already occurred. SC25 looks to be following SC24 fairly closely. Their big bang may be a big fizzle. In another 12 months we should have a better idea.

Thanks for sharing. Really interesting. Long but seems to be reasonable and balanced with good data. NOW I got to check some of the comments (85% of the info on the thread) to check for counterpoints and counter-counterpoints... Cheers!

Tallbloke does a good job, he gets pilloried though. Mo - here does your chart come from? Not solen....? In 12 months we will know more, but that is not much help for planning! Understanding the linkages of what influences solar activty - it clearly isn't random - is the holy grail. I know there are many theories, but most of them have failed as predictive tools. Consensus of predictions seems a particularly unenlightening activity. The search continues:)

Consensus of predictions seems a particularly unenlightening activity. The search continues:) The chart comes from the SILSO database of average daily sunspots (by month). There is also daily if you want it. The starting month for each cycle is the concensus from the solar science community. Fortunately, the sun does not pay any attention. And the community seems a long way from translating changes in solar activity into a useful product for farmers?

The sun was fairly active in January, but according to the cumulative cycle totals (see second chart below), this is still a weak solar cycle.
