G’Day from Queensland Australia, interest in propagation predications and Also weather related, have been talking to Ken Dickman and his 40 plus years of research and also reading John Nelson’s Comsic patterns, we have had drought since the flooding 11 years ago, and only came out of the drought late last year with 80mm of rain in 15 minutes, had lots of rain and major flooding over four to five months, I have noticed the roughly 11 year repeat of flooding since I was around 8 years old, was into amateur radio, with a lot of influence from two uncles in the hobby, so interest in sun spot cycles was there at an early age, only recently I have found out the planets are responsible for the sun spot cycles and weather Great site many thanks for all the info i will try to absorb, any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Welcome vk4khp from another Queenslander (urban, SE corner). Are you by any chance interested in ham radio? Thanks. Live In the Lockyer Valley, although I work at Spring Hill. Used to work at Albion, but the ground level of the building was flooded earlier in the year, we were moving, the flooding just pushed the move into the new building forward. I am glad the drought broke, We are on a property on a mountain, it is thick bush land. We had no grass, just dust, we lost a lot of trees and plants, and one species of wallaby, which is endangered, I have not seen since, we were providing food and water, which seemed to be working, but around the time that we got the massive rain fall, around 80mm in 15 minutes, they seemed to disappear, now the property is a jungle of green. still having to remove some dead trees, but we try to leave them for the wild life..
Yes, well I guess the VK4 Call sign, may be a give away on the subject of amateur radio, I have been licenced since 1980, But was a shortwave listener from a very early age, maybe 6 or so listening to the shortwave on one of the old valve radiograms. Aircraft were still using AM modulation, back then so was interesting listening from around the world, including the broadcast stations. Not as active on the Radios as I was say ten years ago. have been restoring Valve radios for a few years now. Not sure if i can post a link, apologies if it's a no.

Small world. My dad and my wife's mother were both born in Laidley. Until recently, we attended family reunions at Ma Ma Creek. I ran a service station in Commercial Road, Newstead/FV for over twenty years. Then with Australia Post IT (application & system support at the GPO & West End) till retirement. We're probably related ..... Grandfather's house at Thornton ... it was still there last time we were up that way.

We're probably related ..... Grandfather's house at Thornton ... it was still there last time we were up that way. Only lived in Laidley, for around 20 or so years, apparently we still aren't locals yet. we had a Queenslander in the main street near the Park and the Culvert. The night we put the house on the market, the rain just dumped, we had around 150mm of water just running across the ground, and as the house was built in underneath, it was starting to fill up the rooms. We were trying to stop it coming in but that was futile, and the wife told me the culvert was starting to break the bank and was coming across the road, I let the every one know in the street to move their cars out, we were lucky as the water just came in the through the fence and never made it to the house, it was flooded three times up to the floor boards, and again this year.
and we ended up getting a property 300 meters above where we were. although 2011 came and flooded the area and the next two floods after, our driveway is part of our dam wall and we have around a 10 to 15 meter drop off the side. We had the dam wall wash out and lucky for us we had the concrete tracks from the house to the front gate, around 200 meters, so insurance paid for the rebuild and a massive cement slab. and drainage to reduce the stress of the inflow of the water. so far this year, we have had the dam overflow twice and no damage. Love the area, not a fan of the city.
Haven't been to Thornton for many years. Had a bit to do with left hand branch and Black Duck Creek. Back in 1996 we did comms for Wicen and was dropped in by helicopter to check on the status of the people in the area, the had no phone lines as they were washed out, Some of the boulders were the size of a car or small truck, the damage was unthinkable. The same happened again in 2011 and the radio club and the council provided a UHF CB repeater and Hand Held radios, so they could communicate up and down the valley, a number of people died, just from the flooding, the speed it comes down the valley from the mountains is amazing, the people were able to pass details of conditions, and finally one of the telco's put a satellite linked Mobile phone base in on the same site we set the repeater on. so they finally have communications through the area, there are some very large farms through the area.

Speaking of floods, I came across this in Trove: The Toowoomba Flood of 2th February 1893Apart from the quaint writing style, the Trove article could have been describing the January 2011 floods: What it means: There is no climate crisis.

So it did make good reading Ratty and yes similar to 2011. Climate crisis, what is that, yes that's right, that's when people with a mental illness, glue their heads to a road, or sit on a road, or throw soup at a painting and use glue to attache them selves. petroleum based glue's at that. Tell me more about the membership fee info ?? I was looking at doing a course that Theodore White is running, has anyone else gone through the courses ??

The membership fee requires a check by mail using FTX crypto. Through Ukraine.

What Kidding!! It is a play on words. FTX laundered money given Ukraine to support Democrat candidates. To the tune of $40,000,000+. The only fee is you invite others to join. The finders fee will result in expansion of folks visiting and posting knowledge.

What VK, unlike some other forums, you will find this - for the most part - a place of politeness and good humour. PS: A good pun is much appreciated too so don't hold back when an opportunity presents.
