I’ve been following this ongoing eruption on a daily basis. The live webcam views of the eruption have been very dramatic at times. Ash is certainly a problem especially if it’s accumulated on a roof and then rained on. The weight of rain soaked ash could collapse a structure. That said, I think the pic in this article is of a home particularly close to the volcano that was most likely evacuated early on. In general life on La Palma goes on in spite of the eruption. The lava flows will be the permanent remnant there…they can’t be “cleaned up”.

Not all lava soils are good. Java Island has extremely rich soil, while just a swim away Sumatra has fairly poor soil.

Yesterday's quakes were not on the Cascadia Subduction Zone but it's clearly on folks minds. www.zerohedge.com/weather/earthquake-swarm-hits-oregon-coast-causing-fears-next-big-oneIsn't it interesting how there's much talk about folks pulling up stakes and moving to Red states from Blue states due to the desire for freedom, liberty and the Constitution yet, with an eventual certain natural disaster potential, folks by in large, don't move to a safer place. I think most people tend to stay where they are for a multitude of intertwined reasons and that picking up and moving is typically fairly difficult. Not to mention the chance of relocating to a different looming catastrophe. Life is Dangerous!

those places where danger exists are often very attractive Mountains are more interesting than the plans of Kansas.
I remember a saying about that in oil exploration.

Those Kansas plains are VERY plain. Liven it up by moving east and south of the Kansas line. Ozarks. Lots of less geotectonically challenged, vertical geography south along Longitude Highway 92-94 West. Feel free to sweeten that up Walnut.
