The Prime Minister of Belgium has a pretty stark warning: "Europe's energy crisis needs immediate action or else the economy will come to a full stop,". He also said "The risk of that is de-industrialization and severe risk of fundamental social unrest." To the best of my knowledge he is the first leader to actually come out and speak the truth about just how bad the energy situation is in Europe so kudo's to him for actually leading and telling the people the truth. markets.businessinsider.com/news/commodities/european-energy-crisis-economy-full-stop-belgian-prime-minister-2022-9

Firewood price question? Here in my part of the world the cost of a cord of firewood ranges from 280.00-320.00 USD per cord. A cord is about 3.62 CM for those who use the metric system. I tried to find prices for firewood in Europe online and it seems to be about 80.00 to 95.00 for 1.8 to 2.0 RM. Which if I am doing the math correctly that is about 200.00 Euro a cord? That seem extremely cheap to me during an energy crisis. Am I doing something wrong?

What is RM unit of measure? Uncategorized You measure out a meter lengthwise when unrolling a bolt of fabric, and the width is the original width. The unit m2 is simply a 1m x 1m square of fabric, with the rm representing 1m on the right and the width of the bolt of fabric on the left. What is C unit measurement, on the other hand?
So .... if it is one layer of wood that is essentially 1m by 1 m and each layer is say 4'' in diameter, then it would take just under 10 layers to reach 4 ft in height. Thus 80 to 95 euros for 2 RM would be 787 to 935 euros. And you would still be short 0.43 meters on the long dimension (thus 0.82 cord). If the split pieces averaged 6 inches in diameter then the price would be 480 to 540 euros.
So no bargain there if I got it right. And Europe could be de-forested by spring.
Here in COMO a cord of seasoned oak will set you back $150 to much higher depending on the seller and how far you have to go to pick it up. If I were a young man, I have a lot of woods that could use a little thinning in places. But I'm not and that is a lot of work.

No pallet dimensions on these. The photos for most of these look to be no more than 1/2 cord, and are mixes of mostly softer woods. So lower the btus by 1/3. So that would very roughly translate to maybe US 250+ for a full cord of hardwood. And the ones I saw are in Poland ... so add transport. In Flagstaff, before I had a gas wall furnace added, I would burn about 6 cords or so a winter. It was a stout but poorly insulated cabin.

It’s slow but I found it interesting. Kind of a history of fireplaces and firewood.
One thing I learned in the Texas blackout in February 2021 was just how much firewood it takes to heat a home And how inefficient a fireplace is.
I’m prepared how with a cast iron wood burning stove. Probably 10x more efficient than a fireplace.
