Have any of you heard of Malcolm Bendall? The majority view seems to be that he is a con artist. He has come up with an invention called the thunderstorm plasmoid generator. I haven't enough engineering or physics skills to assess his claims. My gut sense by 98% is that it's nonsense. That leaves 2% that it might not be. The Coming Electricity Crisis

Artificial-intelligence data centers and climate rules are pushing the power grid to what could become a breaking point.

President Biden and the press keep raising alarms about a climate crisis that his policies can’t do much about. Yet in the meantime they’re ignoring how government climate policies are contributing to a looming electric-grid crisis that is more urgent and could be avoided.

Energy: Is the focus not all wrong?

I recently came across an eye-opening peer-reviewed paper by Roger Pielke JR regarding NOAA's billion-dollar disaster (BDD) calculations that CNN and many others reported on. After Pielke discovered a hidden directory on NOAA's website, which contains 18 recent versions of these tabulations, it became clear that NOAA's methods may be significantly flawed.

Pielke' evaluation of the NOAA analysis finds that the “billion dollar disaster” dataset falls short of meeting NOAA’s Information Quality and Scientific Integrity policies.

Thus, public claims promoted by NOAA associated with the dataset and its significance are flawed and misleading.
NOAA incorrectly claims that for some types of extreme weather, the data set demonstrates detection and attribution of changes on climate time scales.
Similarly flawed are NOAA’s claims that increasing annual counts of billion dollar disasters are in part a consequence of human caused climate change.
NOAA’s claims to have achieved detection and attribution are not supported by any scientific analysis that it has performed.
Two recent events mentioned, the Fort Lauderdale flood and Hurricane Idalia, highlight issues with NOAA's loss estimates. For the Fort Lauderdale flood, NOAA's estimate was over $1.1 billion, but independent estimates totalled less than $600 million. Similarly, NOAA's estimate for Hurricane Idalia was more than five times higher than other credible estimates.

In summary, NOAA's methods for calculating billion-dollar disasters appear flawed and leads to inflated counts. This matters because these counts are widely used by policymakers, the media, and scientific literature, potentially leading to misguided decisions. NOAA's lack of transparency and methodological inconsistencies need to be addressed to restore confidence in their data… don’t you agree?

I suggest the focus should be on reduced disaster losses normalized by population and wealth.

CNN based on NOAA falsely claims: "Number of billion-dollar weather disasters in US blows through annual record with four months left in the year".
