Going on walkabout up close to the Gulf of Carpentaria rainfall willing, a plan so secret I would need to kill you if I told you. Actually a boon-doodle with a purpose. Sick of this place been under country arrest for to long. When we don't hear from you for some time, we will assume that you died a noble death for a worthy cause.

Sick of this place been under country arrest for to long. New Zealand has twice the land area of the State of Missouri, with a similar population. Even at the height of the madness, I could walk or drive anywhere I wanted without official impediment. Even entertainment watching the Karens, alone in their vehicle all masked up. Jacinda should go walkabout.

Traffic was much lighter though 😎

I know of a place up in the mountains, semi remote, but hidden, where a small river runs some rapids and multiple small waterfalls. While driving a dirt road that twists and turns and crosses a creek following a river up to an ancient lake, the river deepens into a canyon and the road runs a different route around the canyon. Getting down into the canyon is best with a rope, a slip would be bad, but once down you find hidden overhangs on the rock walls with ample space to camp and numerous small water falls, and tiny pools etched into the rock. We were swimming in one of the pools under a small 6-7 foot waterfall while fish were making attempts to jump up the fall, and there is a photo of the same family relaxing in a small pool worn into the rock face but nicely warmed by summer heat. A beautiful place I would never, like you, actually give directions to but would take a friend, preferring to keep the exact location an unspoken, unwritten secret.

ocean.dmi.dk/arctic/meant80n.uk.phpThis is the first time for a while that I have seen Arctic Temperatures below seasonal average. One might have thought that all the cold air wafting over the US and elsewhere came from the Arctic, which should have seen an uptick in temperature. The Arctic air would have been replaced by warmer air from further South.

Thinking average earth temperature has declined slightly.
There is noise about heat in India. Must be robbing Great Plains because sure as heck isn't very warm here.

We had our first 100F day of the year here in southern Arizona 2 days ago. That's 2 weeks earlier than normal. Today the high will be 90.
We will leave Saturday (driving) back to Ohio. We always try to time our trip to avoid severe weather. I don't see any tornado weather as of now. In past years we've driven through Moore, Oklahoma and Joplin, Mo shortly after very large tornadoes hit those cities. Coming to Arizona this year we drove through Mayfield, Kentucky and saw the damage from the major tornado which hit not long before. It killed 80 people in the area and the outbreak was the strongest ever for December.
Missouriboy, we be staying 100 miles south of Columbia on Monday, so keep things calm.

Sigurdur, Thanks for posting that. Mr. Snodgrass has some really detailed weather information. I subscribed to his channel and will add it to my watch list.

Got another 2+ inches last night ... 46 F at 2PM. Average says it should be 62 F here. Yesterday the high was 60 F and the average was -8 F below the mean. Today's high looks to be 46 F ... -15 F from Normal.
The purple irises are extending flower buds and tentatively testing conditions ... and acting like they don't think its going to happen. But they're ready and waiting. Smarter than many of our politicians.

Lots of people - including yours truly - think our planet is cooling.
However, end April satellite figs show a rise to +0.26degC.
I am beginning to worry about the provenance of those figures.

0.26C above the 1981-2010 average so a centered temperature from the mid 90's or a quarter of a century ago.
During the YD 10C rise or fall in a century happened several times. As such the rate of change is small by comparison and the actual temperature is still 2.5C below the Holocene Optima which was after the YD excursions had settled.
So we are lucky to live in such stable times.
