Chamberlain got a lot of bad press he allowed the Brits to get their war machine rolling for an extra year. He knew that a war directly after his talks would have seen the UK eaten alive. Plus many other countries for that matter. I am quite interested in WW2 tanks and what is quite apparent was the very different direction Germany took with it's design direction compared to the allies and Russia. The allies designed tanks that were 'good enough', had strong mass production advantages and easy serviceability. The Russians designed actually quite good tanks, built them to a 'good enough' standard to achieve strong mass production but didn't expect (or care!) them to survive or need maintaining. The Germans had a vision that exceeded their design stage during the war, so everything after the panzer IV. They wanted something bigger, started designs and produced gear boxes, engines, then added more armour, complicated wheel arrangement and by the time the Tiger was produced it performed exceptionally, for 50k when it broke down, and the turret had to come off to get the gearbox out. The armour is interlocking at edges so very hard to produce, the welds are absolute mastery. The gun was amazing. Then they made the same mistakes with the panther and the tiger II. There were even bigger tanks at prototype stage, and I'm forgetting to mention how the allies restricted their tank size to train gauge capability, the Tiger II was too big for many tunnels on a train! Then the allies knocked their factories out. I wonder what the outcome of the war would have been if the Germans had followed similar design philosophy to other nations. Not that everything revolved around the tanks, but the resources the Germans used to produce what they did could have been used elsewhere? NATO and Russia today in many ways follow their traditional design philosophies but with more technology involved. Russian tanks are basic, hard to maintain, nor crested for crew survivability necessarily. NATO can change their engines in an hour and try to preserve crew. Production is kinda off the table as no-one is mass producing new tanks right now. However clearly tanks are not the deciding factor in warfare now but useful to help infantry as part of a combined force

Tanks are so pasee. The quickly dawning new age belongs to "the drone". Designed around the grand kamakazi style. Disposable and cheap. They know when they go up that they're not coming back. And they don't care. I can hear Wagner in the background. And Cindy fits right in. Sized for the machine ... from a fly to a room. The ever present sweet voice that drips with poison. Good luck gentlemen. We're going in. Downsize everything to a shoe box (or smaller) except for the explosives ... all flying in formation with a Cindi at each set of controls. And don't forget Wagner. He loves the Ride. He's German afterall.

Perhaps, but I suggested earlier in the current Ukraine conflict...invest in companies aligned with anti-drone alignment. As much as drones have, let's face it been a surprise factor, anti-drone tech will probably also be surprisingly innovative. Just apparently not from Russian development. I guess my rant on armour though specific to WWII (and armour), is mostly about how application of tech in a useful way is crucial. It's easy to go in a direction which seems important, eg, It's a tank so make armour thick and gun big which seems logical. The west has usually been good at industrialising tech and making it useful enough. I reckon at some point we'll see new doctrine with new branches within current forces specific to both application of drone use, and to counter them. I think birds should be worried, radar tuned to small objects 🤔 though ai implementation may reduce winged fatalities. Maybe portable 4 barreled minigun weapons with radar guidance? Works well enough to defend ships from missiles....

I think what you will see in the future will be the economics of warfare. The aircraft carrier, tank and battleship are probably a thing of the past as they are crazy expensive, take years to build and will be vulnerable to attacks by less expensive more effect technology like drones etc...

Plus many other countries for that matter. I have heard this said before but I think it's highly unlikely the Germans would have ventured to take Poland if he faced repercussions for reoccupying the Rhineland in 1936 when Germany was still weak. They had another chance to stop Hitler in 1938 instead of giving him the Sudetenland. It certainly was not "peace for our time". Hitlers plans were clearly lined out in Mein Kampf, he wanted lebensraum and he was clearly trying to take it. Putin has made similar claims when it comes to his feelings about the break up of the USSR. His interview and tangent about Russian history with Tucker Carlson gave me an uneasy feeling about plans. In my opinion his claims about the de-nazification are even worse than Hitler's claims that German speaking Czech's in the Sudetenland were being persecuted. Putin is rapidly transforming Russia from a peacetime economy into a wartime one rapidly expanding his military industrial complex. I do not think it is wise to let him take Ukraine without a fight and hope this is once again "peace for our time".

Sigurdur, Over the years we have had great conversations and I have always respected your opinion on everything from farming, the climate and politics. I got to thinking that over the last couple of years and a half dozen or so talks I never asked your opinion on just how do you see this war ending? What would be a "fair" resolution to hostilities? As a matter of fact I would love to listen to everyones opinion on just how this war should end.

As a matter of fact I would love to listen to everyones opinion on just how this war should end. First off, this really isn't a war. This is a skirmish. The US would never allow Canada nor Mexico to be Chinese or Russian controlled. Evidence of that is the Cuban missile crisis. Russia is not a "Great" power, it is a power. It also doesn't want the US/Nato to be on their doorstep. Finland is now part of NATO, Ukraine would be the final straw. There were agreements to have Eastern Ukraine autonomous. The US didn't like that. We overthrew the government that was "friendly" to Russia. I would support a peace agreement that was already in place. Eastern areas that are majority Russian ethnicity would be autonomous. Ukraine is a crooked country. Russia is a crooked country. Russia continues to have vast resources that the world needs. The US is a vast military Empire. Close to a 1,000 foreign bases. Problem is, prolific spending is now catching up to us. Flea had a very good point. A shift is happening. BRICS countries are rising. End the conflict and carnage. Glenn: I enjoy our conversations very much and have respect for your insights.

I don't know, Mr. Flea. I don't think Poland is on Mr. Putin's radar. That would surely trigger an all out NATO response, and perhaps end in WWIII. If Mr. Putin makes a move in Europe, it will be into the Baltic countries. Whilst technically part of the alliance, I think many NATO countries would balk at starting a major European war over Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia. That sounds a bit like Mr Chamberlain. Damn, Mr. Moboy. I look like a bulldog, smoke fat cigars and have recently started drinking champagne as I bathe in the morning. And now you just tear all that hard work down with one comment! Still, you and I will have peace in our time!
