Scott Morrison's hand-picked candidate for the Sydney seat of Warringah has returned fire after she was forced into hiding, received death threats and had to tell her family to leave Sydney, fearing their safety following her inflammatory transgender comments.
Liberal candidate Katherine Deves has repeatedly dodged the media as she tries to avoid being grilled over her inflammatory comments regarding transgender athletes competing in women's sport.
But the contender for the Sydney seat of Warringah has now hit back at trolls and critics, claiming "a lot of quiet Australians" hold the same views as she did over the topic that has enveloped her Federal Election campaign.
Ms Deves was thrusted into the news headlines after media outlets discovered now-deleted social media posts where she suggested transgender people were "surgically mutilated and sterilised" and she was "triggered" by the LGTBQIA+ rainbow flag.
She also compared her push to stop trans athletes from competing in women's sport to standing up against Nazis in the Holocaust.
A 29-year-old transgender woman beat a 13-year-old girl to take home the top prize in a skateboarding contest in New York City, reigniting the debate over whether new inclusivity pushes create an unfair advantage in women’s sports.
It seems like biological male bodies are far better at being women than women are … where transwomen could win woman of the year awards instead of women who have been women their entire lives. How have we reached this point?
You would have to think that the vast bulk of the world can see the lunacy of modified men competing in female sports.
If people are given the freedom to take a position that does not risk bullying and de-platforming they will not support the very obvious absurdity that is destroying women's sport which has fought for more than 100years to get close to parity just in the events participated in.
I think women will be the least supportive actually, men have a level of apathy as it's not their space being destroyed.
