This Indian summer thing is a term applied to many things are we able to get a slightly more quantitative explanation, please. had it a few times in Calgary November ish .. heat would roll over the rockys and it would go from -18 to +15 in a day hang round a day or so and then be gone .. I was out once with a friend and his young son slogging through deep snow Trick-or-Treating.

In Texas we only have two seasons. Summer and not so hot. We get none of this Indian summer you guys with four actual seasons experience in late fall can get some years. Here, we have much the same although this year we've had very few unpleasantly hot days and I seem to recall that May was the coldest on record for the continent .... Memory still working OK: Australia Experiences Coldest May on Record

This Indian summer thing is a term applied to many things are we able to get a slightly more quantitative explanation, please. For starts, it is not a 'thing,' it simply means an extended summer in the autumn season. We are witnessing a variation shift of Venus to the Sun relative to the Earth. When this happens during a summer season, as it is right now in 2023, we see extended warm weather conditions. We are also, at the same time, seeing solar cycle #25 head toward its maximum by the mid-2020s. I have written about this before many times in the past, and so the maximum of solar cycle #25 is nearly here.

Thanks for the clarity. What impact could the NH timing of an Indian Summer have on the SH. Is it offset or do we get an extended winter or a milder spring.

A big sad article over at the New York Times. The theme is climate and conflict

Good to hear from you Astro. What do you think of the Old Farmers Almanac winter 23-24 forecast? It looks okay, but there's still an Indian Summer going on into November 2023 that I forecast last year. While the northern regions of North America will see snow, winter for the most part will be interesting later in some regions of the states than others into January.
