I was intrigued while watching, looking at, these fellows because they didn't look like anyone of them had worked. They don't seem at all as if any of them has ever held a job or worked in industry, the overall sheen is of academia.

I've been watching Kazakhstan Kazakhstan is the dominant nation of Central Asia economically and politically, generating 60% of the region's GDP, primarily through its oil and gas industry. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kazakhstan

And Texas GDP is larger than Russia's. It's amazing how much income the USA produces.

Putin is no dummy. If he turns off the gas to Europe he turns off the cash that fuel his economy. He is in a strong position but if I was going to make a move like that it would be in November when the days are growing shorter. Not mid January when the nights are getting shorter. But then again no nationality can endure pain like a Russian can. Just ask the Germans...

If there is a gas crisis in the EU they the EU will bargain away a good deal for Putin to stay warm and in power.
Further Russia has a reputation for patience in the past, and I would suggest that a strategic $200m to the appropriate green players in the EU and the knowledge that the NAO is rolling over plus not being a religious zealots of the CAGW persuasion and we will see "slowly slowly catchy monkey" in play, just saying.
Had a great idea that could resolve the entire issue, they want the EU to stop growing NATO, why not invite Russia to join NATO. Whats not to like!
