we have highs of 16-19c this week .. but the short term forecast end of month first week in aug .. back to 14-16c ... ohhh and rain every second day ..but thats normal We are at a very normal high of 30C. But our precipitation for July has been 3.5 times normal and we are only half way through the month. Not complaining. The plants love it. Very green. Lawn mowing more than normal.

A decidedly "COOL" July here in Middle Earth. Seventy % of July days have been lower than average ... some as low as 8-10 F below normal. Goes with precipitation that is 4 times normal. I am not complaining. It is VERY NICE. But one wonders what it bodes for the fall and winter. Will this be a cold La Nina winter?

I believe that (1899) was the winter that the Mississippi River froze over at New Orleans.

Supposedly the hottest couple of days on record just passed. temperature.global unadjusted data shows that we are in a relatively warmer period, but nothing like that. Here in NEOK the grass is green and temps are cool. Not exactly apocalyptic.

Here in coastal Texas June was 1.6 degrees above normal and July will likely finish below normal due mostly to all the rainfall and cloud cover. Pouring over the records at NOAA most of the warming of the last 40 or 50 years in my area has been due to higher nighttime low temperatures. I attribute this more to the urban sprawl and all the concrete that has been poured over the last half century in the Houston/Galveston metro area. All that concrete sucks up the hot Texas sun in the daytime is holds it longer into the night.

Here in my part of the world the weather has been a crazy roller coaster ride. SE Texas had a very wet spring that culminated in a Derecho on May 16th that left vast areas of Houston without power for days and days. No big deal pick yourself up, dust off and move on. Then Hurricane Beryl crashed into the area during the 4th of July weekend and once again no power for much of the area for up to two weeks. They just picked up the piles and piles of debris out of our yards. Then it went bone dry in August and most of the area did not see a drop of rain. The last few days of August and all of September up to this point has been dominated by low pressure and constant storms from the Gulf. I have had to slicker up all of the last 10 days on the briny. Now a freakish early cold front is clearing the coast and the weather is going to be Chamber of Commerce until Wednesday. Then the rain and storms return...

A famous man once said: The weather has no memory or was it Houston, we have a problem?
