So my thought here is anything from solar power to batteries to vehicles can go here. I'm not totally against EV's for example. I drive a pickup and use 4x4 on building sites, I travel on average, 50 miles a day. I had engine issues recently because mechanics in UK are generally of low standard and work that had been done (injectors/head gasket) had actually hurt the engine in the long run. Finally found a mechanic with a respectable success rate and got the engine swapped. The idea is, run the truck for 5 years with (touchwood) a now reliable engine and I'm waiting for EV pickups to become available. Electric 4x4 is an advantage. Mechanical 4x4 relies on transfer boxes, diffs etc to retain traction to as many tyres as possible. Electric motors give you control over each wheel in a much simpler way, with the added benefit there's no air intake or breathers to submerge (for those days when roads are underwater and I'm being a hooligan.....yes this does happen and yes I am a child!) That said I don't think there's any illusion here that the green thought process has rather higher expectations of EV and electricity production and that infrastructures are currently weak. As demonstrated here.....expectation, remove nasty diesel mini digger, replace with E digger and daisies grow in abundance. Reality is.... fb.watch/6nU3x4OLym/

I have never driven any vehicle larger than a golf cart that was totally electric. My wife's Prius of earlier years doesn't count. Would like to see a digoff between the electric digger and a good old fashioned diesel one of comparable size. I would be pleased to be wrong. But my money would be on the diesel.

Would like to see a digoff between the electric digger and a good old fashioned diesel one of comparable size. I would be pleased to be wrong. But my money would be on the diesel. Even if the diesel had a bucket half the size, it would win as it could run indefinitely, the E digger is 2 hours work, 8 hours charge. How well they work while operating is bit moot at the moment. It would be interesting to see how power delivery affects performance. As electric motors deliver 100% power almost immediately as opposed to an ICE which needs to rev, there may be benefit there. Though I may be not fully aware of how a diesel produces power to the hydraulic system?? And as usual, and I'm just repeating what we all know, the E digger didn't just appear out of nowhere to run for 2 hours emission free. It's only there because of mining, factories, manpower, transport etc. All of which emits CO². I honestly think much of this government led zero emissions thing is just empty promises. They MUST know its impossible to do in 10 years. However, if they don't promise these things they pretty much consigne their electoral ambitions to the trash can. It's fine for Sophia in Islington to believe that by cycling to work she's saving the planet because she has nothing else to concern her. Surely anyone who is responsible for National GDP and economics must have enough of a grasp on how the world currently operates to see the reality of what Sophia expects? They still need her vote though....

They still need her vote though.... What we need are politicians turned statesmen that take principled, well researched positions on issues of great import to the Nation. They may need her vote, but it should not be coddled. It should be earned. It is the statesman's job to feret out truth from garbage (in as much as truth exists) and convince the public of that position, regardless of political cost. I think that Churchill was as fine an example as can be found. At the end of the War, the voters kicked him out. But where would Britain have been without him during the War? They could always have dug up Chamberlain if they just wanted to surrender.

If elected officials are simply going to do what the majority wants done, we don't need elected officials - we can simply use direct democracy.
In a republic (which we kinda still are, though its rather hard to tell sometimes), we're supposed to elect people to LEAD. A leader figures out the right thing to do and persuades people to do it. If their idea doesn't work or if they fail to persuade people it will work, they're supposed to get booted out and replaced by someone else. One of the tremendous potential strengths of the US is that we've got (in theory) 50 semi-autonomous states that can try different things to see if they work. The populace in one state can watch what their leaders are doing vs. those in other states to give some clue about how well their leaders are doing overall. The leaders in one state can look at other states to see if things are working or not. Its messy, but what human system isn't?

Now, if we could only stop people(s) from depositing money in the pockets of the clowns. Disclaimer: Not all clowns are funny ... and not all clowns are corrupt.

They all are working to get re-elected and the best time tested tool to accomplish that is to buy votes by giving presents to the lowest common denominator.

Been Nice Knowing Ya Cousins. Better hope it gets really cold BEFORE these morons get their way. Europe Has An Ambitious New Climate Plan That Imagines A Dramatic Cut In EmissionsGermany's environment minister, Svenja Schulze, said negotiations need to focus on maintaining the ambitious targets in a reliable way, be fair to the poor and ensure all of Europe "goes down this path together." "National solo efforts won't lead to the goal," she said. "There needs to be a coordinated, massive expansion of sun and wind power from the North Sea to the Mediterranean."Echoing the thoughts of some climate scientists, Oxfam EU head Evelien van Roemburg urged the member countries and lawmakers to be more ambitious than the European Commission. "They must step up ambition by ensuring all EU climate rules contribute to carbon emission cuts of at least 65% in 2030, rather than the current 55%," she said. www.npr.org/2021/07/14/1015984262/europe-has-an-ambitious-new-climate-plan-that-imagines-a-dramatic-cut-in-emissio

There is actually a chemical limit to the energy density of a battery. The small atom of Li gives it away as the highest density option probably available. The alternative is to use Hydrocarbons and employ a remotely sourced oxidizer in the air O2 then redefine this as a battery and then remotely deploy the O2 on the ground vial trees.
Idiots, nobody will fly as they are to poor, ah the ruling class excluded from this issue.

Which just means at some point we'll get large government subsidies for electric powered aircraft.
Edit to add: As we've seen in other industries, if being "green" isn't economical, the .gov will step in and make it economical.
