A new study published in Nature Journal "Warning of a forthcoming collapse of the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation" is stirring up quite a bit of chatter on the internet. Study seems to indicate the AMOC will likely collapse somewhere between 2025 and 2095 in what will likely be another Dansgaard-Oeschger event. www.nature.com/articles/s41467-023-39810-w

Is this not a product of the Saharan winds that drive the sea currents north and south in the Atlantic but in varying quantities.
So a cold Antarctic which we have had but it seems has changed, will see the Arctic cool in the near future if it has indeed flipped.
Lets see.

" somewhere between 2025 and 2095 " I'll let you know a forwarding address when I'm sure which way I'm headed.

So a cold Antarctic which we have had but it seems has changed, will see the Arctic cool in the near future if it has indeed flipped. Lets see. According to the study it is a product of the rapid warming of the arctic over a decadal period releasing vast amounts of cold, freshwater into the North Atlantic disrupting ocean currents. It's happened before many times and it seems likely it will happen again. If you subscribe to AGW theory our burning of fossil fuels may make simply make this happen sooner than it would otherwise... Interesting thing for me with this paper is the math behind it narrowing it down to a geologic timestamp.

I am not sure there seems to be some overlap or possible connection between the Beaufort Gyre, Dansgaard-Oeschger, Heinrich and Bond events. Perhaps when the Beaufort Gyre releases its freshwater into the North Atlantic it can (but not always) lead to the other more severe events tipping the scale to various degrees. I find the sudden warming leading up to these events seems very similar to the warming we are currently experiencing and perhaps not as "man made" as some would have us believe. Perhaps we are having a role and it is speeding the freshwater melt in the arctic that will ultimately be the straw that breaks the camels back. I also find it very interesting that these researchers have narrowed it down to a very specific timeline. Between 2025 and 2095.
