Too much fuss is being made by the warmer than normal SST's in the Atlantic basin. Water temp is the fuel but lower wind shear is the spark. And I have learned over the years you need the spark to start the fire. El Niño years typically create higher wind shear values over the main development regions in the Atlantic. Without a dominate Bermuda high this year what storms form are likely to track north into the open Atlantic.
Now if that Bermuda high develops and wind shear relaxes all bets are off...
