Comments in the article tell multiple stories. Those claiming that historical data suggest that current accident totals are not out of bounds and may be due to lax corporate oversight and under staffing. Many / most of the others represent emotions that may precede social upheaval. Obvious that many think that the current administration (read Democrats) are out to subjugate us. Posts on woke/socialist rags on the other side say the same thing with a different slant. GDS is taking over and the depression hasn't even hit yet. We can always hope it doesn't. But the social structure seems to be falling apart. My slant is that the government is too big and is engaged in activities it has no business in. It must be cut down to size. Only way to do that is to refuse to expand the debt limit without huge cuts in the budget.

FBI/CIA Feds generally. What do we have to do to be rid of those MF's once and for all? Trump accomplished less than nothing, despite the fact that he ran on the "fire the deep state" platform.

Remember when Obama - Holder - Lynch were in power, we had weekly urban riots? The minute Obama left, that stuff ended. Don't think that these people can't/wouldn't kill American citizens.

I think the understaffing - especially understaffing in terms of properly trained, conscientious, experienced workers is a key factor. We see it with airline pilots in the "developing world"; the training is rote and the resulting pilots are just button pushers. They don't have the understanding, interest, or experience to deal with a real emergency. A pilot with a log book showing thousands of hours may have just a few dozen with their hands and feet actually moving the control surfaces of a real airplane.
Modern technology is full of dense energy sources. Ignorance when handling them is, in the long run, just as dangerous as doing so drunk.
Going to harp on a common theme of mine again: we don't teach people to think. We teach them to memorize something long enough to pass the test and then forget it.
Arleigh Burke is often quoted as having said that "the difference between a good officer and a bad one is about ten seconds". How many of these derailments, fires, industrial accidents, etc. could have been prevented by the right ten seconds of intelligent action? Both of the 737 Max crashes could have been prevented by ten seconds of good piloting.
"They do not preach that their God will rouse them a little before the nuts work loose. They do not teach that His Pity allows them to leave their job when they damn-well choose. As in the thronged and the lighted ways, so in the dark and the desert they stand, Wary and watchful all their days that their brethren’s days may be long in the land." (Kipling)

Really? I can buy a derailer suitable for derailing a train at Home Depot? Not a common home item I would think.
