Ok, I have had some rare time off so sitting around the computer I decided to do some searching on the stratospheric cooling event in the article provided by Sigurdur. Nothing, not one mention of it anywhere else on the internet. Crickets... Hundreds of articles on how Tonga-Hunga would not cause cooling due to the amount of water blown into the stratosphere. And here we are 9 months later and we have stratospheric cooling clearly caused by the volcano. I am not sure of the physics of water vapor in the stratosphere but it stands to reason it would cause warming. But that is not what we are observing. Maybe the water vapor's effect is actually cooling? Maybe water vapor in the stratosphere has a negligible effect and the SO2 is causing the cooling. It will be interesting to see how this effects our NH winter if at all. H2O in the strat causes cooling because of the increased radiative effect. CO2 is a very narrow band, H2O vapor has a very wide band. It will be interesting to see how that translates to the NH?

OK Walnut. Where are the Okies going to go this time around? Can't afford gasoline, and California is full of idiots. I don't know. I've been casing for easy pillaging targets. The early bird gets the worm.

I read that sunrises and sunsets have been spectacular this year down under. A well documented phenomenon from 1816.

The concentration of vapor and other ejecta below the equator provides an interesting occurance and subject for comparison to those that weren't. Hunga-Tonga is at ~30S Latitude. The Big ones ... Tambora and Krakatoa were almost right on the equator. Pinatubo is at 15N Latitude.

We're safe if it's green. Right?

In the age-old battle against mosquitos, DEET has proven effective at keeping this nemesis at bay, but the repellent is smelly and its protection is short-lived. Now, researchers report in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry that they have designed safe alternatives that have some advantages over DEET, including a nice smell and much longer protection from bites phys.org/news/2023-01-mosquito-repellents-deet.html

Currently my summer/fall field clothes are sprayed up with permethrin. Effectiveness survives multiple washings supposedly. I normally only wash them once a season unless they are particularly dirty. Works great. Also repels women.

The problem with dim wits, half wits and plain old-fashioned charlatans is they have no skin in the game. The required skin in the game, due upon failure, ought to be more than just a lawsuit or a jail term. It SHOULD be a good old-fashioned crucifixion.

Hey Non! The press says y'all are drowning over there ... and are calling "this" the storm of the century. Which one? The current century is still kind of young. Hoping they are exaggerating ... as usual.
