Opinion: Here's the reason people tell me they want to buy an AR-15. And it's simply ludicrous
Opinion by Michael Fanone Updated 6:26 AM ET, Mon June 6, 2022 www.cnn.com/2022/06/05/opinions/guns-ar-15-uvalde-school-shooting-fanone/index.html
If banning them outright seems like too extreme a solution to be politically palatable, here's another option: Reclassify semi-automatic rifles as Class 3 firearms.
I can't overstate how dangerous it is to have semi-automatic weapons like the AR-15 in the hands of civilians. Our public officials have it within their power to help make it harder for people who shouldn't have these weapons to get them. A police officer should never have to worry about being outgunned by the bad guy they're protecting the public against.

The real problem is not guns in the hands civilians its the illegal guns in the hands of criminals.
That is the lesson from NZ where a massive compulsory buyback of guns has resulted in a massive lift in gun violence but with the illegal weapons never seen.

It may slow down 16 year olds (but so would beefed up security) but it won't stop the majority of criminals. I had a friend back in my early college days. He claimed to be a hard core communist. But he had one saying I really liked ... said he never wanted to see a day when the government had a monopoly on violence. Had to agree with that.

Code, Check the facts on how many people like yourself or family may stop body injury or death if they had a gun in possession. I think many of those that guns protected are very glad that they could protect themselves while waiting for the police to arrive. Just my 20 cents worth. I live in the country and had to show two young jaspers my 4570 to encourage them to leave my property in my shop. 40 mins. later the Sherriff showed up to take a report.

Shot a couple of boxes of 5.56 ammo from a Steyr Aug and an AR-15 out on the ranch with my son today. Those tin cans really had no chance. My son likes those black plasticky looking rifles. My tastes are more traditional. But you know what? A semi-auto rifle is still just a semi-auto rifle, no matter if it is scary looking black composite with a futurisitic, aggressive style, or a wood and blued hunting rifle.

I was once the proud owner of a Marlin 45/70. Sigh. PS: If they had been reluctant to leave, you could have showed them the size of a round.

Politicians should mention at least the actual problem- there are a lot of very bad people in the USA. Many or most of the shooters have been deranged liberals. Let's talk about it!

Remington bought out Marlin, which is about like Walmart buying them. But, the Marlins I have seen and read about have still been good quality. Maybe nothing much changed at their Kentucky factory.

I haven’t owned a firearm in decades but I found the YouTube channel Forgotten Weapons a few years ago and could watch those episodes for hours. Here’s one of my favourites:

I would disagree with your claim as stated above. I'd say it's dangerous to have AR-15's (or a lot of other things) in the hands of a small number of specific individuals. Would you agree with that change in statement?

Would you agree with that change in statement? Yes. I like the graph, very statistical. I would like an overlay of the number of guns/100,000 people for the same countries.
