lol what do you expect ?? in the uk if we build next to the sea we build a sea wall .. as you know that in a storm surge you're going to get flooded strange so very strange Some Americans are not too bright. But insurance companies insure them for wind. And Uncle Sam insures them for flood. And the allure of beach life (if you have the money) is just so strong for some.

Now, people have a better understanding of what built these offshore sand bars (barrier islands) to start with. Sandbars move ... and if you build on them, expect to be moved occasionally. But they will build again ... and will be moved again.

there will be a lot of boats for sale.
I just bought one a month ago so a shame but my 300Hp could be lifted to a 400Hp if one came available!
The damage will be massive all the sand that is there will be moved but actually everyone in the region knew this was a high risk possibility.

Also a lot of expensive boat "parts" will be available on the cheap after the adjusters finish their work. Maybe before. For those in/near the area or their agents. If the hull is toast the rigging and gear may still be in decent shape. The insurance companies are going to take a real hit on this one.

"Used" Boat Parts. We visited Fort Myers in summer 2021. Looked nicer then.
Really good map in this article, although it includes the now-standard climate-trollip slant.

Just checking: Should cyclone Freddy now be renamed Frederico? Should I contact the Guinness Book of World Records?

Just checking: Should cyclone Freddy now be renamed Frederico? Should I contact the Guinness Book of World Records? The amazing Freddy just keeps on .... eclipsing Hurricane John for longevity by a considerable margin: Tropical Cyclone Freddy
