Agatha's given us an early start on the 2022 Hurricane season. There's been a lot of speculation that this will be a busy season because of the La Nina. As Roger Pielke Jr. notes, Major hurricanes have been down in the last 12 months.

Fast Times from Tampa Bay to Cape Coral Hurricane Ian is expected to plow ashore around Venice, FL on Wednesday as a Cat 4. Storm surge at the center forecasted to 12 ft. Lotta inner-coastal waterway moored/docked boats may be on the move today. Upcoming boat parts sale for anyone interested. Sold my Venice lot last year. Lots of tall oak trees. Be a shame to see them wiped flat. But that's the risk you take living on a hurricane coast.

Haven't heard Ian attributed to Climate Change yet...but you know it's about to happen.
...Nevermind:

Haven't heard Ian attributed to Climate Change yet...but you know it's about to happen. Already hearing rumblings of the "virtually unprecedented track." It is true that it is rare for a hurricane to strike this section of the Florida coast, but it has happened. The geography of the West Coast of Florida also makes populated areas prone to more severe storm surge than other parts of the Gulf Coast. So there will be a lot of hype about that as well. I wish the folks in the affected area well, and hope Ian increases speed (as looks possible now) so its strengthening is limited. And I'm not sorry to say that i am very thankful we haven't had even a hint of a storm this year here on the Mississippi coast. First time in five years I haven't had to batten down the hatches.

Haven't heard Ian attributed to Climate Change yet...but you know it's about to happen. ...Nevermind: Amy is a brain-dead Karen. Long-term, the southern portion of this coast has averaged 1 hurricane per year. They got 4 of them in 2004 and 1968.
Punta Gorda, FL is in a very high risk hurricane zone. 79 hurricanes have been recorded in the Punta Gorda, FL since 1930. The largest hurricane was Frances in 2004. The most recent Punta Gorda, FL hurricane was Bonnie in 2010.

Modeled storm surge for Port Charlotte Sound. Poor Punta Gorda may really get hammered. The whole town underwater at 9-ft modeled elevation.
