Speaking as a true novice, I would expect that a certain amount of the value of "old" coins would be based on how many of them there are (rarity). I assume that is included in the grading. The grading is all about condition, not even necessarily about beauty ( some coins are just more appealing than others based on where the marks are, color and toning) and they are very precise. NGC does provide a price guide which is more conservative than the PCGS price guide. That is based on recent coin auction sales. Pricing is about condition, rare dates, and eye appeal. I'm not a collector myself, I own some as a small investment. I appreciate some coins, but I'm not looking for key dates or any of that kind of thing. I think they are a good inflation hedge, and easier to sell on ebay than bullion, which won't get as fair a price on ebay. People prefer to buy from bullion dealers like Pinehurst Coins on ebay. I think it's a pain to go to gold dealers /coin shops, they make money by underpaying novices like us. That would probably explain why this one is listed as "Free".

There is an aesthetic factor, too. Some coin designs were just never popular.

It's interesting, isn't it. The value of Chinese equity has basically gone nowhere since about the beginning of the whole circus. In fact negative, and that's pre-inflation. I thought that the point of ownership equity was to grow over time. Take the Chinese accounting with a grain of salt. And that goes for their government economic data as well. But it is not as easy to fake share prices. The proof is in the pudding.

Will Amazon leave a package at the Gates of Hell? Why not? Their headquarters is nearby. Do they have holdings in a building blocks company?

Let's hope that some of them have changed ... and will scream bloody murder.

Let's hope that some of them have changed ... and will scream bloody murder. Too much screaming not enough tough decisions being made by either side. Under Trump it was just as bad raising the debt ceiling 3 times. It's hard to think the current push by Republicans is anything but catering to a base, posturing and grandstanding. Especially given their recent past... As Rand Paul said. "When the democrats are in power the republicans are the party of fiscal responsibility. When the republicans are in power there is no party of fiscal responsibility".

Politicians prime directive is re-election and since the largest percentage of the voting public is completely ignorant with regard to who and what they are voting for, optimism for the future seems hopeless. How many people do you know that can tell you what a trillion is? I doubt many congressmen or senators can succinctly define what a trillion is and I know the “president” can’t.

I DO know that any rep that votes to expand the debt limit without that expansion amount coming OUT OF THE BUDGET will not be getting my vote regardless of party.

They are just trying to find out what that magic maximum total debt number really is.
