Anyone know why we are not developing lasers for missile defense? Travels at light speed, and just needs guidance from radar or infrared sensors. Seems (to this sadly physics ignorant layman) to be a whole lot easier then guiding kinetic interceptors.

Could it be done on naval vessels now? Especially nuke powered? as far as i know it's been tested on ships and jumbo jets .. it's a old technology .. how refined it's got i don't know it's about making the laser strong enough .. not the range .. a 1mw laser will reach the moon ..
