So... somebody who says his ship was in the area when no one - EVER - has confirmed that it was...
... and doesn't even claim it was his ship that "fired"... ... and has no explanation for how a warshot was substituted for a practice missile... ... and has no explanation for how a 747 was mistaken for a TURBOPROP towing a target drone... ... and is the only person supposedly now out of THREE ship's crews who has come forward... ... and who doesn't address the wreck examination being completely inconsistent with a SAM... ... wait, didn't address the wreck examination AT ALL... ... is somehow "legit."

There are certainly conspiracies out there.
When trying to decide if something is a real conspiracy or a hoax, there are a few questions that can be asked:
1. What do the people supposedly behind the conspiracy get out of it? OK, the Navy is doing a cover-up to make itself look better. By comparison the 2020 election gave control of one of the most powerful positions in the world to someone else.
2. What is the *timeframe* in which the conspiracy has to be executed? For TWA 800 they had hours at most - less for the P-3 crew this article brings up. By comparison for the 2020 election to be corrupted by massive fraud... well, the timeframe is about four *years*.
3. How many people with direct knowledge have to be tricked/silenced/co-opted to make the conspiracy work - note that this is DIFFERENT from the body of conspirators themselves. In the case of TWA 800, we need to account for some hundreds of naval personnel, and scores of trained accident investigators from two major companies and several federal agencies. [edit to add:] 2020 election: various election monitors.
4. Who has come forward and what evidence has surfaced? TWA 800: one person who can't establish their involvement and a handful of questionable distant views of fire in the sky. For the 2020 election? Video, photos, election monitors reporting being ejected, sudden unusual surges in vote counts, the AZ investigation...

I remember many Chinese graduate students at the University of Florida at that time ... including one who was ready to fight any speech that suggested Taiwan had a right to self-determination.
