There was a standing joke among expats in Saudi Arabia when I worked there.
Question: "How do you distinguish Saudi military equipment from American military equipment?" Answer: "The Saudi military equipment is rusted to the ground."

Standing on a camo camel to fire your weapon?
I recoil at the thought!
Sorry.

Personally, I think a "defense" budget of $400,000,000,000 adequate. Anything beyond that becomes "offense".

We could cut the budget significantly if we let the various states raise, arm, and train their own militias again (no, the National Guard does NOT qualify).
Of course that's about the LAST thing the Powers That Be want, since it would give disproportionate power to the Red states and the sane citizens.

We US citizens need protection from our own federal government. It is completely out of control and poses a much greater risk to our freedom than either China or Russia do. The entire rest of the world is aware that US citizens are basically under siege by their gaslighting media and the US government, but most Americans are still asleep.
I don't get that flush of pride when I see F16s streaking across the sky anymore like I did when I was younger.

The world is in a tough spot.

The world is in a tough spot. Add Australia. After the NSW election, we are coast-to-coast socialists ** and our conservatives have forgotten who they are. ** with the exception of the Apple Isle, Tasmania PS: All the talk on radio this morning is about how quickly we can decarbonize our economy (stopping coal & gas exploration and export, shutting coal & gas generation, imposing penalties on 'big polluters', etc). We may as well become a province of China.
