Missouriboy, We are always fighting the last war... When they started building this gift from the taxpayer to the defense contractors drone technology was in it's infancy. Probably obsolete for at least the last five years. But it sure looks good... China will send 72 simultaneous cruise missiles at that thing every hour. And if they are like everything else made in China they will break down or miss their target. The Military Industrial complex here in the U.S. always needs an enemy so we can get Congress to spend trillions more. Years ago we had to stop the spread of Communism in SE Asia. After we broke the USSR and won the Cold War there was Iraq. Then Afghanistan, I guess the next up is China. We have to have a threat. China is fighting the next war while we are spending trillions fighting the last one. They are fighting an economic war for world domination and the top spot as the worlds reserve currency. And we just keep spending ourselves into submission

And we just keep spending ourselves into submission China finds ways to carve out larger and larger areas of influence for themselves. They don't actually want a direct war with the US, one of their largest markets, and a country with 3x the defense budget of anyone else. But Taiwan is different, they will never give up on taking back Taiwan. And they will wait 100 years if necessary, they know that the US is not consistent and our leadership and policies change every few years. They will wait and eventually take back Taiwan when the time is right, and we won't fire a shot. And Taiwan needs to know that the Deep State is not a particularly reliable partner to depend upon.

Hear Hear. President Eisenhower warned us. Yes he did, and his point is valid but still it would be nice if are armed forces were in better shape. An analogy Farmer A has a high maintenance lifestyle. Fancy wife, fancy car etc. He has to reduce maintenance spending to afford his fancy lifestyle. Eventually, everything collapses around him as he can't complete required tasks in a timely manner. Farmer B has a beautiful wife, she is part of the team. Live in a trailer, drive old cars, no boats, lavish items. Work together hard. Meticulous maintenance on old equipment, gets required tasks done in a timely manner. Builds up working capital. Farmer B buys Farmer A out. USA is busy emulating Farmer A

Our revolutionary armies were not materially in "better shape". Yet they won. Low budget, strong spirit, defense of hearth and home. Different time, yes. But the Viet Minh did the same thing 200 years later.

Besides that, who is our enemy? Biden is Commander in Chief and he wants us to surrender our rifles.

Would it help if there were merit badges?

I question this one as well Missouri. I do know that any submarine can be tracked, UNLESS it can hide below the thermocline. Then it is hunt and seek. Not knowing the sea conditions in that area at the time in question, is impossible to determine whether the sub was below a thermocline. I do know that submariners hunt for these little jewels so that they can hide. Nuclear reactors heat signal is very obvious is no thermocline is available.

I think the story is more interesting than the original story or even this one. I don't believe the Chinese narrative.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Russian troop build up on the Ukraine border?

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Russian troop build up on the Ukraine border? Their politics seem so complicated in Russia and Ukraine, I never know who is in the wrong. Which oligarch is the worst? The Russians seem destined to always live under a czar rule.
The deep state will slap a new round of sanctions on Russia if they do invade.
