In my subjective view, default would be the best option for the long run, followed by the subsequent restructuring. However, given the initial shock of job losses and lack of funding for government programs, the leaders in Washington would be deeply unpopular. Historically, voters blame the presidents party for economic problems. There is an election next year. Those in power want to stay in power. Biden and the dems will make a last minute deal with major concessions to avoid default. If you think Biden is historically unpopular now, a default would bring his approval rating to record breaking low numbers. or hang on till then and give the problem to the next person .. Works in Oz. Socialists run up huge deficits. Conservatives come in and make unpopular decisions to rectify. Socialists get voted back in ....

I know it’s silly but I just keep thinking about the oath of office these Marxists all take and what a mockery has been made of the republic we inherited.

Benjamin Franklin Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. - Ronald Reagan

I could have included this in the economy tread but I figured it was worthy of its own. I will preface this by saying there is a very low threat of the U.S. actually defaulting on our debt. Both parties are beholden to special interests and 99.9% of this is political posturing before they reach a last minute deal. We have seen this movie before. With that being said I would like to get the braintrusts view on the issue. Feel free to comment. Personally I think default is a bad idea but we have to somehow right the ship and restore some sort of fiscal responsibility to Washington. Feel free to comment... I think today I would change my vote.
